DREAMER is an original sci-fi series. The year is 2090. Margot is happily married with children. She runs a successful company called DreamScape. DreamScape safely offers individuals an opportunity to disappear for an hour or two into a dream world, or any memory of their choice. DreamScape is a leader in the lucrative multi-billion-dollar business of escapism. In 2090, worldwide laws forbid people from global travel and each family is only allowed one long haul flight every five years. In the meantime, there’s DreamScape.

In a sudden turn of events, Margot’s husband and two children are killed in a terrible car accident. Margot dives deep into the world of DreamScape to push past her grief. At home, in a completely uncontrolled environment, she uses DreamScape technology and serum to spend more and more time in uploaded memories with her belated family.

Margot becomes addicted to DreamScape, and like an addict, she uses higher doses of the serum to be able to spend longer periods of time in her memories. She loses track of time and misses important meetings and family events. Her brother drops by to check on her and finds her hooked up to a makeshift version of DreamScape in her living room. She’s unresponsive. He can’t find a pulse. He tries to resuscitate her. No luck. He calls 911.

Margot looks around. She discovers she’s completely naked. She looks up and meets the eyes of several young Renaissance painters. Silence. She slowly wraps a blanket around her bare body and bolts out of the room, down a spiral staircase, and out into the hustle and bustle of the cobblestone streets. Florence, Italy. 1502. A horse and carriage barrels past and knocks her to the ground. Someone yells at her in Italian. She’s completely confused. These are not her memories. These people are not her family. This is another reality altogether.

S T R U C T U R E & M O O DIn DREAMER, we deconstruct time in a similar way to films such as MEMENTO and INCEPTION and free ourselves from the chains of traditional narrative continuity. The non-linear structure unravels a complex mystery that lies within the story and it’s only at the end of the final episode that a truth is revealed with a surprising punch.

DREAMER explores the idea of ‘emotional realism.’ The camera language and lighting reflect our heroine’s emotions and not necessarily the world around her.

DREAMER finds the lighting and camera language for each episode through the emotional drive of the character in much the same way as the TV series EUPHORIA.

A C T O R SThe role of Margot will inhabit several different characters during this series and challenges the actor to portray characters outside her race, gender and age. She will have to reinvent and transcend herself in every new episode.

F I L M R E F E R E N C E SDREAMER’s inventive narrative rings a bell akin to the Wachowski’s film CLOUD ATLAS weaving one woman’s human experience through different lifetimes into a tapestry of continuity through tales past present and future.

Similar to THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE, and the TV series THE OUTLANDER, DREAMER hopscotches between with past present and future. The series catapults the viewer hundreds of years into the past and future exploring the varying emotional landscapes of our protagonist.
