Fruit Basket

Dreamscapes 5

Fruit BasketThis piece is a series of random curved lines going into directions within certain shapes. I made this piece with pencil and card stock paper. And then I transferred it to Corel Painter and painted the shapes with natural colors that reminds me of a fruit basket.

I arranged shapes going in different directions to make an abstract feel of fruit. I wanted the audience to focus on the colors first, then the shapes.

Wonka Maze

Dreamscapes 7

I started off sketching it with pencil, and outlined each line with a black sharpie marker, scanned it twice and increased the size to fit an 8.5x11in sheet of paper. I chose the colors purple, yellow, and turquoise to illustrate an abstract maze feel in the Willy Wonka world.

My Diptych art piece is called Wonka Maze. I started off sketching it with pencil, scanned it and increased the size to fit an 8.5X11 sheet of paper. I chose the colors purple, yellow, and turquoise to illustrate an abstract maze feel. I chose these three colors because these were some of the colors from the Wonka theme. And then I transferred it over to PhotoShop and added the selected colors to it.I arranged the lines and curves this way to give a whimsical feel of the piece. I gave it an illusion that it is maze when it really isn’t. I purposely wanted to trick the eye.

This piece is a whimsical escape of finding the focal point of the art, even though the colors can be harsh on the eyes.

Night and Day

Dreamscapes 9

Night & DayI used a thick pink and green card stock paper, pink, turquoise, purple, green, and black sharpie markers. I first sketched it with pencil, traced it over with black sharpie marker and filled it in with the different colored markers. I wanted to experiment with curves again and different line weights and thickness drawn within a shape.

I found that the paper takes awhile to absorb the marker color, and the darker the paper the darker the color of the marker makes and effect. I folded the paper to show the difference of the brightness of the colors, but then i decided to not fold it to show the different shades of paper one on top of the other. The darker the paper the more the colors change when I use the markers i.e. I used turquoise on the yellow side, and on the pink side, the turquoise is like a dark navy blue.

I chose to compose this piece to catch the audiences eye with the bright yellow paper and the vivid colors of the marker and then tie them in to looking at the darker part of the piece.

Galactic Flower

Dreamscapes 11

Galactic FlowerI started out sketching this piece with pencil and then outlined it with black sharpie marker. I used colored pencils to shade in the shapes. I used marker and colored pencils to fill and shade for a shadow effect on each of the shapes. I decided to fill the background with a gray background to let the bold colors “pop” and make it eye-catching.

I wanted the piece to be about futuristic plants, so I created a flower out of circles with different colors. I used pink, purple, orange, and green for the flower. The yellow and blue circles represent the sunlight and water that the flower needs in order to survive. And the red dashed circles represent the seeds or pollination of the plant.

I wanted to give the audience time to back up and see the piece as an flower and not a piece of paper with a lot of circles on them. This is a very unique way of displaying nature in an abstract form.

Violet

Dreamscapes 13

VioletI sketched different types of flower shapes and decided to go with a four petal flower. I then outlined it with black sharpie marker and added designs inside the petals. I then created lines outside of the flower to make a vines. But I decided to connect the lines and make leaves for the flower to rest on. The pink flowers are part of the background. I used turquoise, purple, and navy blue.

I arranged a flower inside of the flower to give a focal point on the piece. I used the illusion of foreground and background on the petals. The pink flowers gave people something else to look at because of the bold color that was very different from the main flower.

This piece means the changing of the seasons, the colors of the flowers are changing because it is getting colder. I wanted to give different focal points of the piece, the pink flowers, the flower inside of the flower, and the design on the flower petals. I also wanted it to have a kind of “girly feel” and I added curved lines or “stems”and connected them to make leaves.

Pink Survivor

Dreamscapes 15

I created this piece with Photoshop, I used various shades of pink and different types of brushes.

I arranged the ribbon as a focus to bring attention to the audience about Breast Cancer.

The Ribbon represents the women who survived cancer out of all the women and men who are represented in the background.

Pink Survivor

Pink Survivor II

Dreamscapes 17

Pink Survivor IIThis is my second version of this piece. It is crafted with a l pink ribbon, that represents Breast Cancer. The background represents the sickness that enters the bodies of the men and women who are infected with this illness. This piece was sketched with pencil and then colored with colored pencils and watercolor pencils.I arranged the ribbon as a focus to bring attention to the audience of Breast Cancer.

The Ribbon represents a woman I know that survived cancer out of all the women and men who are represented in the background.

8Scapes

Dreamscapes 19

8scapesI created this work by sketching it with pencil on paper and outlined it with black sharpie marker. I then transferred the art to PhotoShop and painted the background black, to make the color pop out. And used various cool colors to complement the eight. I also used two gradients inside the eight to bring something for the audience to stare at and get hypnotized!

I arranged the shapes on the sides to cover the eight but its clearing off the eight as well. I wanted it to give a “blooming” effect like a flower. I wanted the audience to look at the inside of the eight first, then the eight and work the eyes out to the corners of the page.

This piece has a meaning of escaping while looking at a plain number. The extra are giving the eyes a reason to stare and relax while at the same time you are looking at a figure.

Fall Faces

Dreamscapes 21

Fall FacesI started out sketching with pencil on sketch paper, I created a one dividing line on the page and based the design off of this one line. Then I scanned it and blew it up to 8.5x11in and outlined it with black sharpie marker. I scanned it again onto Photoshop and added colors, filters, and gradients to the piece.

I arranged the bottom of the page the figure of a turkey to give people an idea about thanksgiving. The leaf figures, and tribal kind of feel gives a “cornucopia” feel.

The meaning of this piece is to give a fall holiday feel, and also a piece for people to talk about and try to figure out. There is purposely no focal point on this piece to make the audience look at everything instead of one area. I chose various shades of red, oranges, browns, yellows and greens for the appropriate colors of the Thanksgiving holiday.

My Last Butterfly

Dreamscapes 23

This piece is dedicated to a close family member that has passed away this year. He loved this piece and told me to go with it one week before he died. I incorporated somewhat of the same design from an inspiration piece that I saw and did a abstract view of a butterfly. I wanted to zoom in to show the detail in the wing. I added another rule onto my series, which is watercolor pencils. I used yellow and green for the background, and blended it with a paintbrush.I used Pencil, sharpie markers and watercolor pencils to bring out the detail in the butterfly wing.

I did a abstract view of the wing and highlighted the tip of wing with yellow and black. I want the audience to zoom in and focus on the detail of the wing. I arranged this to give an abstract view of nature.

Bubbles

Dreamscapes 25

BubblesI made this by sketching it with pencil. And then I used Photoshop to add color and use the color blending brush. i wanted to add an “edgy water” look so I added a couple gradients.

I arranged this piece to demonstrated different sizes and distance between circles. I wanted the audience to focus on the circles that are bigger than the circles that are on the lower left corner of the paper.

This piece demonstrates different types of shapes that are in between each shape. I used several different sizes of circles in certain places to give a floating feel to the picture.

Global Girl

Dreamscapes 27

Global GirlI made this by sketching it with pencil. And then I used Photoshop to add color and used gradients to put a glow around the continents on the purple earth. I wanted to add girly colors to represent the quote “Girls rule the world”.

I arranged this piece to demonstrate different pinks and purple to represent Beyonce’s song “Who run the world?”. I wanted the audience to focus on the main circle because it is the natural focal point of the piece. And then the arrangements of the continents on the globe. The black and blue background are to be focused last because it is a background.

This piece demonstrates what territories would look like on the globe, if they were ran by women. The blue and black background represents the men that are being pushed back because the women are the rulers.

Vacation

Dreamscapes 29

VacationI created this piece using Corel Painter. I found a picture of a beach on one of my calendars in my house and decided to paint a picture of it. I used a lot of blending brushes to create a realistic feel to the picture.

I arranged this piece to look like a realistic painting, the features in the palm trees and the forest in the background have different shades of green to give it definition. I also used different shades of blue for the ocean and blended it with a blending brush.

This piece is for people who really like to go on vacations, mainly by beaches. Vacations are meant to relax, and keep away from things that causes stress, and I think this would be a perfect place to take one.

Eagle Eye

Dreamscapes 31

Eagle EyeI photographed this picture outside of The Art Institute of Chicago, in Chicago, Illinois. This eagle is apart of a column and I chose to photograph the eagle’s face.

This photograph focuses on the eagle’s face. And the detail of the stone that the column is made of. I found the rust and moss spots very interesting additon to the eagle’s head.

This piece shows the artwork that is around the very popular Art Institute downtown. Even though the Art institute is a well known museum for art, there is great art in other places in Chicago.

Ice Drops

Dreamscapes 33

Ice DropsI scanned a package of clear hair beads and transferred it to PhotoShop, and then I added two filters onto it.

I wanted to create an abstract piece from an everyday object. I changed the background and foreground to black and white, and added filters to give an illusion of ice.

This piece was purposely created to trick the eye of the audience into thinking that it was bubble wrap or anything else similar to the image.

Burn

Dreamscapes 35

BurnThis piece was created with Corel Painter, and I blended a variety of reds, oranges, and yellows.

I arranged the brush strokes to go in a upward motion, similar to what a flame does. Then I added yellow and orange highlights to the flames to give it a realistic feel to the painting.

When I created this piece, I thought about what a lot of women that went through difficult times with their significant others. Whether it was a divorce, or a simple break up, there comes a time in a woman’s life when she must burn the remainder of the broken relationship.

Puzzle Pieces

Dreamscapes 37

Puzzle PiecesI made this piece by sketching it with pencil.

I arranged this piece to illustrate a puzzle, the lines represent different puzzle pieces.

This piece has lines that demonstrate the goals we set, some are reached some are not. This piece was inspired by the “Clean Lines” I drew some of the lines disconnected from the pieces of the puzzle to demonstrate how some pieces of our lives and some do not fit, the lines demonstrate the goals we set, some are reached some are not.

Water Drops

Dreamscapes 39

Water DropsI made this piece using Photoshop to create circles and added filters to them to disort the edges. I added a dark and light blue gradients and added a couple filters to distort the picture even more.

I arranged this piece to show different levels of water and water drops in a puddle of water. The plastic wrap gradient gives a reflection of the sun from the water droplets.

This piece has abstract shapes that has been distorted to make a basic shape turn into something that is in a natural form. The audience should focus on the reflection of the water and later focus to the darker part of the piece.

Solar Takeover

Dreamscapes 41

Solar TakeoverI created this piece with colored pencil on a 11x17 white board. I started off tracing the shapes with pencil and go over it with colored pencil. I used various methods of shadings and outlined the shapes with black sharpie marker.

The piece is called solar takeover because it had various parts in windows that represent alien life or space shuttles.

There are various focal points to this piece, because I created this piece with various windows it gives the audience different views of the art.
