DriSteem® High-Pressure System
Overnight Expert Evaporative cooling and humidification
High-pressure pump station
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION• High-quality, industrial-grade cooling and
humidification system
TECHNOLOGY• High-pressure pump – Propels purified, unheated water to each nozzle • Advanced nozzle technology – Disperses ultra-fine droplets (90% are 10 microns
or less) that quickly absorb in warm air-handler airstreams or open spaces
• Wide capacity – 250 to 5500 lbs/hr (113 to 2495 kg/h) per system – Install multiple systems for higher capacities • Zoning capability – Supply multiple airstreams, with differing needs, with
a single high-pressure system
BENEFITS• Cooling and humidification energy savings – Uses heat present in air to evaporate dispersed water – Twelve pounds of dispersed water equals about one
ton of cooling• Green/sustainable technology – 1 LEED credit for cooling load reduction and innovation – Utility rebate potential• Low maintenance – Water-lubricated pump: No maintenance until 8,000
hours (vs. competing oil-lubricated pump at 500 hours) – Stainless steel dispersion nozzles and manifolds
require no regular maintenance • Tight control/quick response time – Advanced Vapor-logic® controller – Response time as short as one second – View or change settings using intuitive web interface
or easy-to-use keypad and display – Interoperability with multiple building management
systems via Modbus and optional BACnet® or LonTalk®
• Complete solution including water treatment – System includes reverse-osmosis hyperfiltration,
particulate filtering, dechlorination, and duplex water softening
– Eliminates white dust fallout and bacteria/virus proliferation
– Perfect for demanding applications that require clean water
APPLICATION FIT: PARAMETERS Q&AQ Does application require humidification and/or cooling?A This system does well with either; ideal where both are
required
Q What is the capacity range?A Best fit is 250 to 5500 lbs/hr
Q Is it a duct or area-type application?A Each is treated differently; contact DriSteem for more
details
Q How much outside air?A The more the better, but we can still look at a smaller %
Q How many zones are there?A Maximum recommended number of zones = 10
APPLICATION FIT: TYPICAL TARGET MARKETS• Data centers (cooling and/or humidification) – Primary concern is energy usage. Key measure is
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) = total power / IT equipment power
– Year-round cooling requirement = excellent fit• Comfort humidification• Government, universities and labs• Industrial • Possible exception:
Some states prohibit the use of adiabatic technology in health care facilities
8 Humidified zones: one, two, or three stages per zone
1 Municipal water inlet
2 Dechlorinator 3 Duplex water softener
1 Water enters system from municipal water supply
2 Dechlorinator (wall-mounted on smaller models)
3 Duplex water softener
4 RO station with particulate filter and RO membranes
5 Pressurized RO holding tank
6 High-pressure pump station:
All-stainless-steel axial-piston high-pressure pump delivers purified, high-pressure water to atomizing nozzles
Vapor-logic controller optimizes absorption in multiple humidification zones
7 Main water line feeds network of high-pressure, stainless-steel piping
8 Humidified zones: purified, ultra-fine water droplets exit micro-turbine nozzles and disperse in AHUs, ducts, and/or open spaces
9 Final evaporation media installed downstream of AHU heating coil prevents downstream wetting

CUSTOMER Q&A / POSSIBLE OBJECTIONSQ Is this technology capable of tight control, and can it
meet a strict specification like ours?A Yes. DriSteem High-Pressure Systems are installed in
a variety of demanding applications. The advanced Vapor-logic controller ensures tight control with a response time as short as one second. DriSteem engineers will provide evaporation efficiency and psychrometric charts specific to your application to verify that the system meets your performance criteria.
Q What about wetting?A Nozzles create ultra-fine particles (90% are less than
10 microns) that are easily absorbed into the air. DriSteem’s experts will help you properly size and design the system for your specific application to mitigate wetting. For AHU applications, DriSteem also provides final evaporation media (a mist eliminator).
COMPARISON TO OTHER ADIABATIC TECHNOLOGIES • Compressed air/water: Combines water and
compressed air to create small water droplets. This method uses more energy than a high-pressure system and requires both air and water supplies.
• Wetted media: Water saturates a large absorbent material/filter and remains until it evaporates into an airstream. This technology has a delayed control response and requires regular media/filter changeout.
• Centrifugal (spinning disk) and ultrasonic (vibrating disk): These technologies are limited in their range of applications because of low capacity.
COMPETITION
Meefog • Market leader• Technology: High-pressure water with impaction pin
nozzle• #1 in turbine inlet cooling • Strong in data center • Strengths – Low energy usage and small droplet size (same as
DriSteem’s High-Pressure System)• Weaknesses – Higher maintenance (due to oil-lubricated pump) – Controllability
Nortec • Technologies: High-pressure, wetted media, and
compressed air and water• Agriculture, printing• Strengths – Range of technologies – Established in HVAC • Weaknesses – Higher energy usage (compressed-air/water units) – Higher maintenance (high-pressure system uses oil-
lubricated pump) – Service issuesMunters • Technology: Wetted media • Data center presence• Strengths – Low energy usage – Simple, easy to understand • Weaknesses – Regular media replacement required – Delayed controlOther competitors • Many small players that are not significant • Capacity ranges are too small to compete
SPECIFIABLE DIFFERENCES (DRISTEEM VS. COMPETITORS)• DriSteem evaporation efficiency charts for specific
applications. (Meefog provides only one data point.)• 8000 hours minimum before DriSteem maintenance
check. (Meefog/Nortec oil-based pumps require maintenance check every 500 hours with oil change.)
• Tight control/response time using DriSteem's advanced Vapor-logic controller: Response time as short as one second. (Munters has delayed control; Meefog uses an off-the-shelf controller with 30-second resolution.)
