Fall 2011
Mike VanDevere gives the keys to the donated car to LEF vice president Denise Leipold and president Mary Huggins.
www.RightToLifeofNortheastOhio.com
Through the generosity of VanDevere Auto, Right to Life of Northeast Ohio (through Life Education Fund, our 501c3 affiliate) has received a donation of a brand new 2011 Kia Rio that will be used as a pro‐life fundraising raffle. The VanDevere family is a strong supporter of our pro‐life programs, and we are most appreciative and thankful for all that they do.
The “Drive For Their Lives” raffle will be used to raise funds for area crisis pregnancy centers, churches, and other pro‐life groups to directly impact the efforts being used to help with crisis pregnancies and beyond. Each of these groups will be selling tickets for the car, and will keep a majority of all funds for the tickets which they sell. From now through April 28, tickets will be sold for $20 each. The drawing will take place at the annual Right to Life of Northeast Ohio
Education and Appreciation Dinner on April 28, 2012 at St Joseph Party Center in Akron.
To purchase a ticket, or to find out where tickets are being sold, call our office at 330‐762‐2785.
“Drive For Their Lives” takes off!
40 Days for Life is “Silent No More” The fall 40 Days for Life campaign kicked off with
an uplifting rally on September 25 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Akron featuring keynote speaker Georgette Forney, co‐founder and president of the “Silent No More” awareness campaign. Her inspiring talk focused on the devastation abortion brings to women and men. The campaign seeks to expose and heal the secrecy and silence surrounding the emotional and physical pain of abortion.
Get more information about 40 Days for Life and sign up to witness at www.40DaysForLife.com/Akron or www.40DaysForLife.com/Canton.
Georgette Forney poses with Pastor Walter Moss at the kick off rally for the fall 40 Days for Life Campaign.

We have suffered a major blow to our pro‐life community with the moving of the abortion facility from Waterloo Road in Akron to 2127 State Road in Cuyahoga Falls. We were made aware that the Waterloo Road facility was closing, but had no idea that it was just moving to another location. This action has mobilized area churches and pro‐life individuals to step up their efforts by increasing their prayerful attendance at peaceful vigils in front of the new location. We will continue to spread the news and let it be known that not only do we not want this abortuary in Cuyahoga Falls….we don’t want abortuaries anywhere!
During the fall 40 Days for Life campaign, we need to focus our time on the sidewalks with prayerful and peaceful protest against the killing of the innocent unborn. This is truly an opportunity to be the voice for the voiceless.
At the abortuaries, women travel from several counties to end the human lives they carry. Shouldn’t we all travel just as far as they do to stand in solidarity with our pro‐life community to show our support for the unborn? We are at a turning point in the fight to end abortion. With the new Ohio pro life laws, and with plans in place for future collaborative legislation, we are finally
seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide us in our efforts to be successful as a voice for the voiceless. We also ask that you continue to pray for our elderly and the dignity they deserve as they approach the end of their lives. Ken Leipold President Right to Life of Northeast Ohio
A message from the president…..
Life Collaboration Campaign Expands by Pat D’Andrea
Beginning in 2010, Right to Life of Northeast Ohio partnered with multiple pro‐life organizations ‐ Heroic Media, Heartbeat International, Option‐Line, Knights of Columbus, ICU Mobile, and our Right to Life affiliates and pregnancy centers ‐ to create the Life Collaboration Campaign. This unique partnership has allowed us to run a successful, strategic campaign that provides a message of help to women in crisis pregnancies and connects them with Christian‐based supporting and life‐affirming resources which help save babies lives! After running this campaign successfully in Northeast Ohio this year and last, we are excited to respond to the challenge grants of Heroic Media and Heartbeat International to spread the Life Collaboration Campaign to the entire state of Ohio! For every dollar raised more than $3 will be spent
towards the campaign! Our plan is to locate 400‐500 billboards throughout
major cities in Ohio, expand our internet purchases to the entire state, and use television to reach women in crisis pregnancies. We have already reserved the billboards (which are strategically located) at a tremendously reduced rate, and only need to provide the grant match of $300,000. In some situations, (such as in Kent, the location of Kent State University) we have purchased space on the interior and exterior of the public transportation system busses.
Please call Julia Norton at (216) 978‐ 7220 or [email protected] for any questions, to schedule a meeting, or to learn how you can help spread this message of help to women and save lives.

The Pro Life Youth Congress has been very busy as they recently conducted seven major speaking engagements in six different counties. National president Rachel Del Guidice & national vice president Christiana Frank have led a whirlwind tour as they challenged students at the summer leadership retreats to step up and make a difference. The students led a conference in Medina County on June 13 for an audience of 78, championed retreats in Summit County on July 15‐16 and again in Stark County on August 18— inspiring over 125 students and adult advisors to organize pro‐life chapters in their schools, churches and youth groups. We applaud the most recently organized chapters:
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy “Royals for Life” Deacon Matthew Akers, Adult Advisor Ben Suster, Chapter President
St. Paul “Spartans for Life” (North Canton) Bryan Knowles, Adult Advisor Patrice Rutherford, Chapter President
St. Francis De Sales “Defenders 4 Life” Betty Schnitzler, Adult Advisor Carlos Ozbolt, Chapter President
Geauga County Catholic “Teens for Life” Jacque Cicchella, Adult Advisor Justin Cichella, Chapter President
Home Schoolers “Minutemen for Life” Dan Crookston, Adult Advisor Christiana Frank, Chapter President
Queen of Heaven “Stars for Life” Paul Dillick, Adult Advisor Taylor Mattingly, Chapter President
John F. Kennedy High School “Eagles for Life” (Warren) Fr. Matthew Albright, Adult Advisor Chandler Schoaf, Chapter President
Manchester High School “Panthers for Life” Anne Williams, Adult Advisor Christine Crater, Chapter President
The Pro Life Youth Congress now has 40 chapters participating and working side by side to build a culture of life. We are pleased to announce that our students will be highlighted in a national publication when they appear in the upcoming December issue of American Life League’s Celebrate Life magazine! For more information, or to create your own pro‐life chapter and join the Congress, simply visit www.ProLifeYouthCongress.com.
Our Youth Program is Growing! by Greg Frank
We are blessed with 10 outstanding district directors who inspire, encourage and meet regularly with 126 ambassadors in the Right to Life of Northeast Ohio Ambassador’s Life Network. Some recent news:
• District 4 under director Betty Schnitzler cheered when
the chemical abortion facility at 215 East Waterloo Road in Akron CLOSED. Sadly, the ownership changed names and began operating shortly thereafter as Capitol Care Network in Cuyahoga Falls.
• District 2 experienced tremendous unity in response to the opening of the abortion facility on State Road in Cuyahoga Falls. RTLNEO President Ken Leipold and LEF Vice President Denise Leipold provided excellent leadership as they called, e‐mailed and visited over 39 Cuyahoga Falls area churches. They’ve personally invited the pastors and their congregations to pray and stand
vigil at the abortion facility in their own back yard. The response has been very encouraging. Let us ALL commit to work in unity to help end abortion in our communities.
• District 9 director Pastor Walter Moss has been very busy at uniting his fellow African American ministers in the pro‐life cause. He and his team have distributed over 275 copies of the Maafa 21 videos to communities that have been targeted for abortion by Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.
• District 10 is a business leaders group led by director Dennis Busson. Through the generosity of VanDevere Auto, Right to Life of Northeast Ohio’s Life Education Fund is the recipient of a brand new car which will be used to raise funds to benefit crisis pregnancy centers and pro‐life charities throughout northeast Ohio. Dennis is coordinating this “Drive For Their Lives” campaign.

marrow. Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, lead investigator, said, “We’re avoiding the ethical and practical issues involved with embryonic stem cells.” (Obtaining embryonic stem cells involves killing human embryos to obtain their stem cells, while obtaining adult stem cells does no harm to their donors. Because adult stem cells are obtained from the patients’ own bodies, they also avoid the problem of immune rejection which plague embryonic stem cell use, and are less likely to cause tumors).
Bill White of North Olmsted, the first patient in the clinical trial, said he noted changes almost immediately. His
eyesight improved, and he was again able to lift his left leg on his own. To date, some 73 maladies have been successfully treated with adult stem cells, while embryonic stem cells have treated none successfully.

risk of mental health problems. The study also found that almost 10% of all
women’s mental health problems are directly linked to abortion.
10 REASONS TO DENY PLANNED PARENTHOOD OUR TAX DOLLARS 1. Planned Parenthood (PP)
performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, 27.4% of the nation’s total.
2. Although the law prohibits PP from using federal tax dollars to directly provide or refer for abortion, whatever funds go to PP for non‐abortion services free up its own funds for abortion services.
3. PP’s policies appear to protect statutory rapists and child sex traffickers.
4. PP is the foremost, most well‐financed and most effective promoter of abortion‐on‐demand in the nation.
5. PP misleads their clients and the public.
6. Several PP clinics have been found guilty or accused of providing substandard care.
7. Several PP affiliates have been shown to be poor stewards of tax revenues.
8. PP’s “comprehensive” sex education programs create a need for its services and exacerbate the problems they claim to solve.
9. Public opinion opposes using tax money to fund abortion.
10. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is quite wealthy. For the full and printable text of this article

MAJOR STUDY: ABORTION HARMS WOMEN’S PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH
Dr. Priscilla K. Coleman of Bowling Green State University just published a comprehensive review of 22 of the world’s best large studies of abortion’s impact on women’s mental health.
The study’s overall finding was that women who had undergone an abortion experienced an 81% greater
Dr. Coleman found that abortion was associated with the following increased risks:
• anxiety disorder 34%, • depression 37%, • alcohol use/abuse 110%, • marijuana use/abuse 220%, • suicide behaviors 155%.
Dr. Coleman concluded that this
information should be shared with all women seeking abortions.

many as simply “masses of cells” or “blobs of protoplasm,” their bodies become subject to commercial exploitation.
One example is the use of a cell line isolated from the kidneys of a fetus aborted in the 1970s. This cell line is perpetuated in laboratories, and is used by a company called Senomyx to help produce artificial flavor enhancers which are then marketed to other companies to produce good‐tasting food low in salt, sugar, and MSG. The companies known to use Synomyx’s products have included Campbell Soup, Solae, Nestle, Kraft Foods/Cadbury Chocolate, and PepsiCo. Which one of us can say we don’t use any of their products? Although the moral connection is quite remote, when using their products, we all participate in the abortion culture. (After being contacted by pro‐lifers, Campbell Soup and Solae ended their association with Senomyx.) Currently, some 28 pro‐life organizations are calling for a boycott of PepsiCo, which still uses Senomyx.
Second, as noted elsewhere in this issue, Planned Parenthood is the nation’s
STUDY: BLACKS AND HISPANICS ARE TARGETED BY ABORTION PROVIDERS
The study, “Racial Targeting and Population Control” by Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics maintains that Planned Parenthood (PP) and other abortion providers target Black and Hispanic neighborhoods to control the size of their populations. Locating the ZIP codes of all PP offices (which either perform or refer for abortions) and other abortion providers, which they collectively call “population control” facilities, the research team then used census data to calculate the percent of Blacks and Hispanics in each ZIP code where the facilities were located, and compared them to the average percent of each minority in each state.
The author found, “… there is not
one state in the union without population control centers located in [those] ZIP codes [having] higher percentages of Blacks or Hispanics than the state’s overall percentage.” Furthermore, of the 116 ZIP codes that had more than one population control facility, 84 (72.4%) were disproportionately Black and/or Hispanic.
In Ohio, Planned Parenthood “population control” centers were found in 33 ZIP codes: • Thirteen of these (39.4%) had a
higher proportion of Blacks than the state percentage.
• 11(33.3%) had a higher proportion of Hispanics. Abortuaries not affiliated with PP
were found in 11 ZIP codes. • Five (45.4%) of these had a higher
proportion of Blacks than the state, • five also had a higher percentage of
Hispanics. Crutcher argues “…the family
planning lobby’s argument that they concentrate their facilities in minority communities because that is where the need is, cannot be reconciled with their long espoused claim” that contraception is the way to reduce unplanned pregnancies and abortion rates, since “the rate of pregnancy among Black women is almost three times as high as it is for white women, and although they make up less than 13% of the female population, they have about 37% of the abortions.” (Or at least it shows PP is not achieving its goal of reducing unwanted pregnancy and abortion via contraception).
Thus, Crutcher concludes that as his video Maafa 21 maintains, Planned Parenthood’s motivation is control of these minorities’ numbers.
ARE YOU CONTRIBUTING TO A PRO‐ABORTION CULTURE?
Those who like to say they are “pro‐choice” want the killing of unborn human beings to be legal. Those active in the pro‐choice movement work to promote abortion, and work against pro‐life groups, laws, and court decisions. Hence, “pro‐
choice” is pro‐abortion. Who participates in our pro‐abortion
culture? Knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, we all do. Once human life is devalued, and in effect, unborn human beings are virtually considered to be the property of the mother to be disposed of at will, we are all affected, and all become involved in the pro‐abortion culture, no matter what our age, sex, or values. Two brief illustrations underscore this fact.
First, once human beings become expendable, and come to be defined by
largest abortion provider, accounting for some 27.4% of U.S. abortions in 2009. Who helps fund Planned Parenthood? Directly or indirectly, we all do. The Obama administration has and will be using our federal tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood. Furthermore, many of the restaurants, banks, insurance companies, department stores, and even non‐profit organizations we support donate corporate funds to Planned Parenthood.
The pro‐abortion ethic has gained a strong foothold in our society. Rather than being discouraged by this fact, however, we all should redouble (or initiate) our efforts to oppose the pro‐choice culture. If we delude ourselves into thinking “I’m against it, but it really doesn’t affect me,” it will surely overcome us, our children, and our grandchildren. To prevent this, we must be actively engaged. A good way to start is to be informed about the life issues. Visit our website and click on “The Issues”, follow LifeNews.com, then think, judge and act.

Golf For Life Makes the Cut! by Frank Rizzo
September 21st dawned beautifully at Lake Forest Country Club. A day, that if had we the power to create “perfect” in climate terms, would’ve been this day. Eighteen foursomes participated in our annual Golf For Life followed by dinner and a silent auction. Skill prizes were awarded, 50/50 raffle held and everyone who attended enjoyed their day. A very special thank you to PAS Foundation (dinner sponsor), Maynard Family Foundation (luncheon sponsor), our eighteen (18) hole sponsors, all of those who donated fantastic silent auction items, and Lake Forest Country Club who hosted the outing. We appreciate the tremendous support of our mission to restore dignity to all innocent human life.
