    In response to market demands, the process performance range has now been extended to IEC frame size 450.

    This leaflet is a pre-catalogue to provide information on the new motor size. It is part of an existing product catalogue: ‘Catalogue BU/Process performance motors GB 03-2004’.

    ABB’s process performance motors were developed to meet the needs of the process industries. When processes operate round the clock, efficiency and reliability are vital. Stoppages can cause major disruptions and expense, and just a few minutes of unplanned downtime can cost as much as a new motor.

    The process performance motors are based on a flexible platform in order to allow incorporation of features required by customers. This flexibility also means that custom built motors can be supplied.

    DesignThe new frame size, IEC 450, is based on the same reliable modular construction as the other M3BP motors. The standardized structure allows serial production and results in a product that is “easy” to buy with standard tools. The ordering system - including option handling by variant codes - is the same as for the smaller motors.

    Benefits for the customersThe new M3BP 450 motor is designed to meet the requirements of OEMs, as well as the needs of direct customer applications.

    The basic structure of the motor is also optimized for variable speed applications.

    Mounting arrangementsPossible alternatives for mounting are B3 foot mounted, for flange mounted V1 arrangement please check the availability from ABB (B5 not possible). Additional lifting lugs are possible as option.

    Cooling4-12 pole motors have bi-directional fan, 2-pole motors are always equipped with a uni-directional axial fan.

    Optimized for variable speed applicationsThe basic structure of frame size 450 is as standard optimized for variable speed applications. Please see product catalogue BU/Process performance motors GB 03-2004 for details.

    The terminal box is mounted on the top of the motor as standard, side mounted not available.

    Degree of protection of standard terminal box is IP 55.

    The motor has cast iron or steel terminal box. The terminal board allows connection of max. 6 x 240 mm cable cross-section area.

    The motor is delivered as standard with an adapter and a cable box. Several alternatives are available, see table and pictures below. Cable glands and cable boxes are the same as by frame size 400.
