Notes for Mrs. P.P.Parikh Driving cycles for Mass Emission Tests on Chassis Dynamometer In India the driving cycle used for mass emission measurement for the purpose of Type Approval and COP is called as the “Indian Driving Cycle (IDC)” which was derived based on the actual measurement of heterogeneous driving pattern in major Indian cities. The important aspect of Indian Driving Cycle is that all categories of vehicles including small engine capacity mopeds are able to follow the cycle without violations. Driving cycles for Mass Emission Tests on Chassis Dynamometer

For four wheelers India has adopted the European driving cycle with slight modification. Whereas the European driving cycle has 120 kmph as the max speed, the Indian cycle has truncated the max speed to 90 kmph as reproduced below in

Different countries have developed different driving cycles depending on the prevalent conditions. Figure 3 below reproduces some of the cycles being followed around the world for certification of automobiles
