There are some rare situations where personal information may be released, but this is explained in the privacy statement that all clients sign prior to their admission.

Group Program and ActivitiesThe unit runs a seven day therapeutic and education focused group program. Groups are an important component of treatment and all clients are expected to participate.

Inpatient ServicesNext Step Inpatient Withdrawal Unit is a state government funded service for people requiring medically supervised withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, amphetamines and other drugs.

Generally withdrawal involves a seven day admission, and there are 17 beds available, 4 of which are dedicated Aboriginal beds. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by nurses and allied health workers.

There is 24 hour medical cover with doctors on site Monday to Friday and available on call after hours.

The unit also has access to psychology, social work and welfare services.

AdmissionsAdmissions are accepted Monday to Friday. Emergency admissions only occur as transfers from Hospital Emergency Departments.

Clients are referred to the service by the Community Alcohol and Drug Services, other healthcare providers and legal services.

If you require an admission please contact your local Community Alcohol and Drug Service or the Alcohol and Drug Support Line for assistance.

Clients are encouraged to have a post withdrawal plan arranged prior to their admission. The plan should be developed by the client and the referrer.

Important Information• To help ensure client safety

and security the unit has a no visiting policy

• Smoking is not permitted. Nicotine replacement therapy will be provided where needed for the duration of the admission.
