Drug Assessments and Evaluations in Maryland

Our alcohol and substance abuse evaluations are

completed upon entrance into the program by certified

addiction counselors, and treatment recommendations are

based on the results of the comprehensive bio-psychosocial

evaluation, scores on various standardized substance abuse

screening tests, and the professional counselor’s insights and

observations. Additionally, ASAM criteria are reviewed to

determine the client’s psychosocial status, medical status,

psychiatric status and readiness to assume regular and active

participation in the appropriate level of care. If need be, a

patients primary therapist or counselor are able to work

directly with their lawyer or the court system in appropriate circumstances.

Vocational/Life Skills Training

One of the things that sets Maryland Addiction Recovery Center apart from how other organizations

approach the treatment of chemical dependency and substance abuse is the focus we take towards

real life barriers to recovery. A successful treatment center combating alcoholism and drug addiction is

made up of three core treatment components: medical,

psychotherapeutic and social services. Our

vocational/life skills training and counseling is the

social services portion of treatment, offering patients a

one-on-one, customized approach to real life issues

that may seem like a barrier to recovery. This is not

simply a “jobs training” or “basic learning skills”

overview. We believe that every aspect of a clients

social surrounding should be examined to see if there

are any barriers to their entering into a journey of

recovery. If so, we offer help to break through those barriers. This may include legal or medical issues,

living situations and housing, job issues or unemployment, education or schooling, basic job skills and/or

family complications and family dynamics.

Many treatment centers tell a client that they need to “put recovery first” but spend little time actually

helping clients with life skill issues that may often be used as a reason or excuse that they are unable to

stay clean and sober. Eliminating those excuses we practical solutions is our goal. We understand that

issues such as divorce, child separation, job loss or inability to work, bills, money issues and credit

collections, additional health issues and need for education are real life problems that can often

exacerbate substance abuse and chemical dependency issues. We feel it is important to take time with a

client to find out just what practical, real life issues they are facing everyday, and once identified, to offer

an avenue that helps to alleviate or lessen those issues so that the client actually is then able to “put

recovery first”.
