Greetings,Who would have thought that Dave
Weckl was happy to be a sideman? It just goes to show what a consummateprofessional Dave is, happy to providehis wonderful playing to support themusic of others. Though, I am sure thatin the future Dave will be fronting hisown band once again, giving us thepleasure that he brings as he has neverplayed it safe or ploughed familiartroughs, instead, he comes back with anew, higher level of playing each time.We can all learn so much from Dave’sattitude, not to mention his fluid andseamless playing.
We also sit with the amazing MikeMangini who has some forthrightviews and like Dave Weckl, Mikehas chartered his own course totremendous success.
Nisan Stewart is a big, big man, buthis heart and wisdom are even bigger!Inside, Nisan explains his approach toplaying and how the song is the mostimportant aspect.
This same sentiment is echoedwhole-heartedly by Vinnie Paul, whomakes the apt observation that, “A
lot of drummers get wrapped upin playing drums for drummers”.How true that comment is and it issomething that we have all been
guilty of at some time.We also have the wonderful
percussionist Jody Linscott, SteveSmith guiding you through his newRaga Bop Trio record, along with Nick Carter offering wise words on findingand keeping gigs. Plus, there is a tuitionsection chock-full of inspiring beatsand grooves. Time to hit the woodshedmy brothers and sisters.
Until next time
