Welcome back to Week 2. I hope everyone had a rest from a huge Term 2. We have started another busy term with the staff participating in professional learning on Monday. Raelene Mordecai, Russell
Honnery and Carol Green presented the 8 Way Workshop to all of the teachers.
Staff enjoyed learning new strategies and making links to things we currently do at school and are looking forward to working with Russell and Carol for another few weeks. Russell will be visiting the
classrooms and discussing with teachers and students how we are linking these strategies in the units we teach.
As you are aware, last Wednesday, we had an emergency situation with a gas leak within school grounds.
I would like to commend our students and staff for their quick and calm response to the situation.
Our Director of Educational Leadership happened to be visiting our school as the situation occurred. He had nothing but praise for our school and our students. “A great big thank you from me to all the staff of Drummond Memorial PS for your efforts today in the evacuation of your school. I was impressed with the orderly way in which the kids were moved to the school oval (and thence, to the cricket ground) and the high levels of supervision I witnessed. More than this, though, the care with which you treated your kids was something to behold. The quiet words of reassurance to those who were anxious, the beautiful way in which the evolving situation was calmly explained to them all. Please also let your students know how impressed I was with their patience, behaviour and good spirit.”
I would also like to thank the principals from the other schools, Mrs Deb Nay at ACP and Mr Brad Hunt from Martin’s Gully for their extra support allowing us to visit them and use their school when ours was out of action. We were given the all clear on Thursday afternoon, after checking, fixing pipes and then re checking that all was working properly and safe to return and re open the school. It was really nice to get back in to Drummond on Friday.
Throughout this situation we used the Skoolbag app to communicate with you and keep you informed of the situation and your child’s safety. If you don’t have this app on your phone, now is a good time to down load it. It is free and we can be in immediate contact with you. Please follow the instructions on back of this newsletter.
The Transition class was very eager to start their learning and had a wonderful day with Mrs Platts and Mrs Mounter. They went for a walk around the school and met the teachers, office staff, saw the library
and other classrooms.
Please visit the Transition room to see what they are learning in preparation to coming to school next year. If you know of anyone with a child who will be enrolling at Drummond for Kindergarten in 2019 please let them know about the class.
The Athletics carnival will be this week so please come along and support your child on Wednesday from 10am. P & C are running a BBQ.
The Stage 2 and 3 classes have the opportunity to attend Historical Museum at Sandon Public School this Thursday. Please return the permission notes asap.
Please see Mrs Peta Deiderick if you have any questions or concerns as I am away this week.
