Diesel SystemsCommon Rail System CRS1-14UP with 1,450 bar and solenoid injectors
Worldwide, more and more diesel vehicles are equipped with Common Rail Systems. These modular and cost-efficient injection systems can be perfectly adapted to any diesel engine to replace mechanical injection systems which have been used up to now. With their electronic control and the capability of multiple injections Common Rail Systems help to make diesel engines even more economical. They reduce CO2 output and emissions to ensure compliance with today’s emission legislation. At the same time, engine output can be increased.
CRS1-14UP is a small and lightweight Common Rail System for the Indian market which uses a cost-efficient unit plunger pump for high-pressure generation. The system is available either with a Fuel Control Unit (FCU) or with an additional module for demand controlled actuation of the feed pump (Feed Pump Control, FPC). This module is integrated into the EDC engine control unit.
All components are specifically adapted to the local demands of the Indian market, while at the same time making use of available, internationally established Bosch technology. Bosch ensures that the CRS1-14UP is a cost-efficient system solution by producing all components directly in India.
Possible applicationsThe CRS1-14UP has been specifically developed for low-price diesel engines in passenger car and light duty applications in the Indian market with up to two cylinders (FPC) or four cylinders (FCU).

Customer benefits▶Cost-efficient, quantity controlled system▶Small and compact system design▶Easy compliance with today’s emission regulations▶Easy integration into existing and new Indian
engine series▶Further cost reduction possible by replacing the
rail with the Fuel Distributor Block, or in case of the CRS1-14UP FPC by omitting the metering unit
▶Low fuel consumption with subsequent reduction of CO2 output
▶Considerably increased efficiency compared to a system controlled by a pressure control valve
▶Long-term stability of injection quantity▶Also suitable for critical fuel qualities▶Local development and production in India

System design and functionThe modularity of the CRS1-14UP enables developers to adapt the system layout to the engine requirements at the lowest possible cost.
Pressure is generated by a PF51-16 unit plunger pump driven by the engine camshaft.
The fuel is distributed to the injectors via a high- pressure rail. With one- or two-cylinder engines the system costs can be reduced by using a Fuel Distributor Block with an integrated rail pressure sensor. The CRS1-14UP is operated as a quantity controlled one-controller system by means of the Fuel Control Unit (FCU). The system does not only consist of cost-efficient components, but it also helps reduce operating costs due to its hydraulic efficiency which results in fuel efficiency.
With two-cylinder engines the CRS1-14UP FPC system variant applies an additional module for demand controlled actuation of the feed pump. This allows to omit the metering unit as well.
The solenoid controlled injector is capable of up to three single injections per cycle. This enables very efficient and clean combustion of the diesel fuel. The electronic EDC17 control unit supports control of a lambda oxygen sensor. It is suitable for chassis mounting near the engine. Outlook Bosch engineers are already involved in the evolu tionary development of this system in order to comply with future Indian emission standards.
