Delivering quality services over Mobile Broadband (MBB) networks is extremely complex. Smart phones and the innovative applications they spawned have put a tremendous strain on network resources. To meet this demand, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have made extensive infrastructure investments, deploy-ing new technologies as rapidly and cost-effectively as possible. Today it is not uncommon to find organizations operating a combined 2G/3G/4G environment. Maintaining high quality communications – be they voice, video or data – under changing mobile conditions is quite challenging.

Empirix Service Assurance: Linking Radio Metrics with Network Analytics
With IuB analysis, Empirix E-XMS Service Assurance solutions span both the Core and Universal Terrestrial Radio Network Access Network (UTRAN). Monitor-ing the IuB interface between radio network controllers and Node B provides an understanding of how Quality of Service (QoS) is affected by radio link per-formance. Monitoring RF performance reveals reasons for dropped calls, high speed data bandwidth leakages, poor voice quality and other issues resulting from inconsistent communications between user equipment and base stations.
A complete analysis of RF performance, resource usage, handover success rates, setup success rates and other key analysis provides an understanding of how UTRAN performance affects QoE. Adding IuB analysis to service assurance programs provides MNOs with:
