3 Conversion of Baseline data to Delft3D FM

Baseline is an instrument to help build and maintain the geometry of model schematisations for hydraulic models Together with WAQUA Baseline is part of the Rivierkundig beoordelingskader of Rijkswaterstaat Baseline is used in the workflow of several types of projects:

Hydraulische randvoorwaarden (WTI) Waterwetvergunningen Planstudies (Maaswerken, Room for the River, Stroomlijn, Deltaprogramme)

4 Conversion of Baseline data to Delft3D FM

Baseline is a geographical database containing (non-projected, mesh independent) geometry of rivers, lakes, delta’s Baseline is an ArcGis plug in for the maintenance and manipulation of Baseline data Baseline contains tools to convert Baseline data in to discrete model schematisations (WAQUA, Delft3D 4, SOBEK 2 and 3, SWAN,…)

7 Conversion of Baseline data to Delft3D FM

Baseline distinguishes 2 types of databases:

Variants: complete continuous description of the model area Measures: mutations on a variant

A measure can be a situation which is al ready realised (update-measure) or a future construction (plan-measure) By “mixing” a measure into a variant (cut, copy & paste) a new variant is created Advantages:

Model history is reproducible, all operations are registered in logfiles Model construction is flexible by the use of measures as building blocks

9 Conversion of Baseline data to Delft3D FM

Baseline contains tools to convert Baseline data into model schematisations using the calculation mesh of the specific model 5 model conversions are available:

WAQUA Delft3D 4 SOBEK 2 and 3 SWAN (beta) Delft3D FM (under construction)

13 Conversion of Baseline data to Delft3D FM

Starting point workflow conform WAQUA no external executables like baswaq; implementation in Python some data are projected on the netcdf, most are not, these are treated in Delft3D Flexible Mesh

Currently testing

Land boundary not projected Thin dams not projected Roughness projected on flow links/ momentum points Thin Dikes (Weirs) not projected Elevation (dry and wet) projected on net nodes

In development

Structures/Barriers Measurement stations Administration (kilometers/axes) Lateral discharge locations
