ORIENTATION DAY E ach year, the new academic session commences with an Orientation Day to acquaint the new students with the culture of the Institute and introduce them with the faculty and staff members. For this academic session, the event was organized in the first week of August,2018 . The day started with the spiritual lamp lighting to invoke blessings of Goddess Saraswati, followed by an inspiring address by Ms. Simple Tandon, Assistant Professor, DSPSR. Thereafter, the new students were presented with a virtual tour of the College by Ms. Sakshi Gupta, Assistant Professor, DSPSR, informing them about the campus, its history and traditions, as well as academic, social, and co-curricular life. This was followed by an ice breaking session, which had a variety of activities and games organized by current students of DSPSR. The program provided the students with an opportunity to interact with the faculty members and existing students. The end of this fun filled event was marked by a small “cultural evening”, where students presented mesmerizing singing and foot tapping dance performances filled with warmth and energy for their curious juniors. The event was concluded with an inspiring address by Prof. Ravinder Vinayek, Director, DSPSR, who welcomed the new batch of students and motivated them to work hard to achieve their goals. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION S watantrata Divas, India’s Independence Day, is celebrated annually on the 15th of August. This day commemorates the country’s independence and the end of the colonial rule of the British, achieved in 1947. DSPSR celebrated the 72 nd Independence Day with great respect and zeal. The ceremony started at 11.00 am in the Institute’s premises.All the staff members and students gathered to honor the sovereignty of our nation. Prof. (Dr.) B. P. Singh, Chairman, DSPSR, hoisted the tricolor flag and embraced the sacrifice of our freedom fighters. Prof. (Dr.) Ravinder Vinayak, Director, DSPSR, emphasized on how youth can contribute to the growth of our country. Prof. (Dr.) G. He was, and will always remain, one of the tallest leaders of his era. His wit, humor and excellent oratory skills combined with his humility and ability to connect with masses made him a leader who was accepted by one and all. The DSPSR family would like to pay heartfelt tribute to the departed soul. of the resource person, Dr. Praveen Kumar Gupta, Ph. D,Computer Science and Engineering, from M. D. University,Rohtak, by Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, President, DSPSR.

Highlighting the importance of patents and IPR, Dr. Guptasaid that it is essential to ensure whether our specific idea isunique or not by investigating domestic as well internationalpatents. He further added that India has become a memberof the global patent regime but awareness and expertise onthe subject of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in academicinstitutions is still inadequate. Maintenance of a properbalance and fine tuning of academic excellence with academicintegrity and protection and exploitation of IntellectualProperty Rights is becoming very important for theuniversities. In the current scenario the aggressive andtargeted creation of intellectual property is the need of thehour.

The participants of the workshop included academicians,research scholars, and industry experts from Delhi & NCR.The workshop was winded up after a brief vote of thanks byMs. Mani Goswami, Coordinator of the Workshop.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON THE POWER& PURPOSE OF ACBSP, USA GLOBALACCREDITATION

An International Seminar on the topic “The Power &Purpose of ACBSP, USA Global Accreditation”was organized by The Indian Commerce Association

(ICA) Delhi-NCR Chapter, in collaboration with Sri GuruGobind Singh College of Commerce, University of Delhi, andDelhi School of Professional Studies & Research, Guru GobindSingh Indraprastha University, Delhi, on August 28th, 2018.The seminar was aimed to provide an opportunity tounderstand the fundamental concepts of internationalaccreditation and served as an initiative to create awarenessabout accreditation that can create a global recognition,transfer of credits/degree, curriculum update, facultyaccreditation and student recognition.

The seminar started with the inaugural ceremony at thecampus of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce,University of Delhi, followed by a welcome address by Dr.Jatinder Bir Singh, Principal, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegeof Commerce, University of Delhi. The Presidential addresswas delivered by Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, President, ICADelhi-NCR Chapter. The event was then proceeded withintroduction of the theme by Dr. Rajesh Khajuria,Commissioner, ACBSP, USA and Director, CKSVIM,Vadodara (ACBSP Accredited). The Key Note speaker of theseminar, Dr. Jeffrey Alderman, President, ACBSP, KansasCity, Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the significance ofACBSP membership and accreditation with a brief overviewof the accreditation process. He also shared with the audience

the business education landscape in Region 10 (South-Asia).

examples about the stories of biggest failures who later onbecame great personalities to motivate the students.

He further added, “To become successful in life, one shouldcollaborate rather than compete”. His light hearted andinteresting conversations helped the students to connect withhis teachings and learning.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

The Rotaract Club ofDSPSR celebratedInternational Literacy

Day on September 7, 2018.The office bearers of the clubmotivated all the students ofthe college to participate in theevent by donating stationeryitems to be used by the underprivileged students studying innearby Government school and also by the kids of the slumdwellers living in the nearby JJ colony. In the evening, anevent was organized in the campus for the kids from nearbyJ. J. Colony. Prof. Ravinder Vinayak, Director, DSPSR, andDr. R. S. Singh, Registrar, DSPSR graced the event. Prof.Vinayak shared with the kids, the importance of educationtowards the achievement of a bright future.

Global Talent Search Examination (GTSE) wasconducted in the month of August, 2018. In which atotal of 362 students registered themselves, out of

which 337 students appeared for the examination. Out Ofthese 337 students, 78 meritorious students, who topped inthe list, availed the facility of Book Bank and were awardedwith merit certificates. TEACHER’S DAY

Teacher’s Day was celebrated in Delhi School ofProfessional Studies and Research on 5th September2018 with great enthusiasm. Prof. Anu Singh Lather,

Pro Vice Chancellor, Delhi Technological University and Dr.A. K Bakshi, Vice Chancellor, PDM University were the Chiefguests for the day. ADULT LITERACY TRAINING PROGRAM

A training session was organized for the rotaractors ofDSPSR who volunteered for participating in the AdultLiteracy Program under Rotary India Literacy

Mission on August 25, 2018. Various eminent members of the

Rotary Club Delhi Maurya, District 3012 including Rtn. Prof.Ajay Kumar Singh, Rtn. A.K. Bhalla, Rtn. Dr. R.P. Tulsianand Rtn. Mohan Nagpal were present to motivate the students.Training kits were distributed to the volunteers and thevarious techniques of teaching the learners were also explained.The session ended with all the volunteers taking inspirationto work on the project with dedication and enthusiasm.

GUEST LECTURE ON “CROSS CULTURALCOMMUNICATION”

DSPSR organized a guest lecture on the topic “CrossCultural Communication” on September 25, 2018. Mr.Subhash Jagota, CEO, Global Business Solutions,

delivered the lecture to the students of B. Com. (H). Mr. Jagota

spoke effectively on the role of communication and steps to betaken for strengthening the communication skills. The lecturewas immensely useful for the students and will surely helpthem in their future for developing good communication skills.

NSS ORIENTATION

The Orientation Ceremony of the NSS Cell of DSPSRon September 29, 2018, was an exultant celebration ofits very essence and the eternal goal, and truly, a sight

to behold. The event wasmarked by presentationswhich moved people’s heartsand impactful speeches whichinspired everyone tocontribute their handfultowards the society.

The NSS Cell of DSPSRwould like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Prof. RavinderVinayek, Director, DSPSR, Prof. G. S. Popli, ExecutiveDirector, DSPSR, Dr. R. S. Singh, Registrar, DSPSR, and

the entire teaching and non-teaching staff and everyone whoattended the Orientation Ceremony. The session ended up witha pledge to make this family a huge one, striving to make adifference in people’s lives. After all, we rise by uplifting others.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE

The NSS Cell of DSPSR organized a Tree PlantationDrive on September 29, 2018, with a great fervor.Faculty and non-faculty members, NSS volunteers, and

students participated in celebration and planted trees aroundthe college premises. They all took a pledge to plant more and

more trees with the time and take care of the saplings thatwere planted.
