Decision Supporting System ( DSS )
Computer decision making , used to be called DSS “ Decision Support
System “ and it is a computer-based information system that supports business
or organisational decision-making activities .
so it’s like giving computers some problems to make decisions about them and
solve them .
what are the specific advantages of using computerised decision making ?
❖ Time Saving , as it speeds up the progress of problems
solving in an organisation .
❖ Increase organisational control , as managers can have a
view at all reports and documents of their organising and
keep an eye on it .
❖ Huge storage , how much data you put in computers , it
can handle it, also it can process a lot of data at same
time and share them with managers .
❖ Fault less , when we process or calculate numbers with
computers it’s more correct than human , as human are
more likely to make mistakes with data .
❖ Reveals new approaches to thinking about problem space
, as stress may prevent managers from finding other
solutions to solve problems. so computers give them more
solutions .
❖ Increasing effectiveness , as decision quality and decision
making effectiveness are hard to document and measure.
Most research has examined soft measures like perceived
decision quality rather than objective measures .
How can computers be decision makers better than humans ?
❖ To me , there is no way
to make computers
better than human but ,
we can improve
computers skills and
ability to make better
decisions .
What are the weaknesses of using computer as decision tools ?
❖ Lack of decision making power
❖ A computer can not take its own
decision They need to be told
each and every step
❖ Computer can not think it self
❖ If we input wrong data output
will also wrong.
❖ It needs electrical power without
power it is useless
Are computer likely to have any specific problems in making decisions that people wouldn't have ?
The only benefit is that the computer could help
you, by giving an overview of problems without
any solutions. The fact that a computer is faster
and can store more data than a human while its
lack of being able to critically consider the
valuable aspects of moral decision making
makes it a very good tool for helping us see the
whole problem so that we can solve it and take
the critical decisions, the computer should not
take them for us.
The computers should only be used as storage
facilities since we as humans only can keep a
certain amount of information in working
memory at once and more important; moral
problems need to be solved by humans.
do you think computer decision making system can effectively take ethical issues into account ?
Privacy and Surveillance
Piracy
Online plagiarism
Downloading software, music, and movie
Copyright and fair use
Fraudulent practices
Hacking
Virus replication
Fabrication of information
Unauthorized collection of information
Ethical Issues :
What is the role of human decision makers in creating ethical choices ?
Human decision makers in creating ethical decision making deal with preferences, utilities, costs, benefits,
goals, and objectives.
One must take all of these into account in order to define the problem and determined the desired and result.
Basically, it is the process of identifying a problem, generating alternatives, and choosing among them so that
the alternatives selected maximised the most important ethical values while also achieving the intended goal.
Are there advantages of completely disconnecting from the wired world when Possible ?
❖ We would meet friends face to face
.
❖ contact with our families even more
then before .
❖ we would read books .
❖ we would be able to go out with
children , cousins ..etc and have
nice real time .
❖ we would study more as we have
more free time .
What can you do to try to retain your ability to focus and process information deeply ?
❖ Stamina your focus .
❖ Multi tasks .
❖ Manage your time .
❖ Write tasks’ list .
Summary
after talking about advantages and disadvantages of computerised decision making , we need to
say that , also human decision makers have some weakness points as we have smaller memory
than computers , so it’s like computers can make our decisions more likely to be perfect , by giving
us info we need faster and easier than using papers , also it can give us many solutions for our
problems or issues so we can choose the best one .
but in the other side , we have intuitive , so we make unique decisions compared to computers .
