Trivia Afternoon A lot of fun was had on Tuesday afternoon in the STEMcell! About 40 students came along to participate in our book week trivia afternoon. Students were sorted into teams with a mixture of Stage 2 and 3 students in each team. The Wrinkles, Rats, Smarties, Bookworms, Rats, Fantastic Four, 3213, Smart cookies and Super Smarties, all battled it out through 40 questions. The questions were about books, characters and stories from Dr Seuss to Hunger Games. It was great to see all students participating and sharing their knowledge. The Bookworms, consisting of Ebony Herd, Seth Knight, Evan Knight and Joseph Prince were the winners in a closely fought battle. Congratulations and thank you to all students for their cooperation and participation. A huge thank you to Mr McBroom for organising the questions and running the afternoon. A special thanks to Mrs Prince for blowing up balloons and helping out.

Book Club After a longer than usual wait Issue 5 orders have come back. Issue 6 brochures have been given out this week. Orders will be due back at the library or submitted on line by Thursday 12th September. Students with Book Week vouchers can use their vouchers in this issue or wait for the two issues next term. If you have already handed in your voucher and order you will need to be patient, as the orders won’t be back until later in the term. Any questions please ask. Thank you.

PRC – Premier’s Reading Challenge This year’s challenge has now finished. Students can start reading for next year’s challenge. I am still able to log books this week, please contact me before Thursday if you need assistance. Congratulations to all students who have completed their challenge. Certificates will be sent to schools late in Term 4. Enjoy the first week of Spring. Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian

Environmental News Mosaic – Native Australian Bees Mrs McKenzie and Stage 3 students will create a lovely mosaic in the Dalton St garden over the next term or so. 5/6L, 5/6C, 5/6M and 5/6P are working on a project based activity with a driving question “Why are native bees important to the Australian environment?”

Wambangalang Visitor Students in 5/6FE have been learning about the importance of sustainability and plants with Mrs McKenzie and David Houghton, a teacher from Wambangalang each week. Last week students made wicker gardens reusing water bottles, old cloth and a sprig of rosemary from our garden in the OLGA. Students were excited and enjoyed the activity. Thank you Mrs McKenzie

AFL Visit Recently our school received a visit from two AFL development officers, Casey White and BJ Ramien. They spent the day running clinics with students from K-2 & MC on various AFL skills and games which looked like lots of fun! They also met with Years 3-6 to continue promoting an up and coming AFL after school program here at Dubbo South. The program runs for four Wednesdays 3.30-4.30pm on top terrace beginning this week ending in Week 10. There is still time to register online. For further details, contact Mrs Heaslip.

Growth Mindset Positive Behaviour for Learning

There is a time and a place for humour. Not to be used when others make mistakes. Humour should not hurt others. Mistakes - we all make mistakes, don't use this to hurt others.

We are taking Kinder enrolments for 2020.

Our transition program will begin in Term 4, starting Monday 4th November to support these new

students. Please drop into our school office to get an enrolment pack. All students will need a Birth Certifi-cate, proof of address and Immunisation Certificate. Please tell anyone you may know living in our area

and have school age children for 2020.

Let’s Make a Difference Operation Christmas Child It’s that time of year again where we can make a huge difference to another child’s life. Operation Christmas Child involves packing a shoe box full of wonderful and useful surprises for a child in need. It is a wonderful project to do with your own children to teach the important lesson of thinking of others as well as appreciating and valuing the life we have. To fill a box with gifts consider these categories: something to love, something to wear, something for school, something for hygiene and something to play with. Ideas include: T-shirts, thongs, washers, soap, toothbrush, coloured pencils, lead pencils, note pads, exercise books, match box cars, balloons, stickers, hairbrush, comb, tennis balls, plastic cups, soft toy (something to love). Please remember no liquids such as shampoo, toothpaste, body wash or glue as these can either leak or melt and end up ruining the contents of the gift. With the school holidays coming up it would be a very worthwhile activity to do with many learning opportunities. If you can’t manage a whole box, maybe think about donating a few items to be combined with other donations. Mrs Prince is currently coordinating donations. Boxes are available from the top office or Mrs Prince. Lara Monley, Tahnie Jones and Kaitlyn Sim from 4H with their

completed Christmas Boxes.

District Athletics Dubbo PSSA athletics is on this Friday 6th September at Barden Park. All notes should have been returned by now. Entrants in the 1500m events need to be at Barden Park by 7 am. A reminder that students need to make their own way to Barden Park and be collected at the end of the day. A canteen will be in operation for the day. Please have names marked on and off by Mrs Buttrey.

P&C News Krispy Kreme Doughnut orders will be available for collection from 2.30pm—4.00pm outside the school hall if you haven't requested for them to be sent home with your child.

Canteen Roster Daily Specials are still available!
