    Story:

A trader had seven sons. Whenever any of his sons got married he died shortly later. Thus six of them died. The marriage ofthe last son was also arranged and all was set. The trader's sister set out to take part in her nephew's marriage with atroubled mind.

On the way she met an old woman who asked, 'Where do you go?' She replied that she was going to attend her nephew'swedding and revealed the fate of other six nephews. The old woman said - 'The seventh one will die as he leaves the house. If not then he will die on the way crushed under a falling tree.

If not he will die of snake bite as he goes around the fire for the seventh round in the marriage ceremony.' The trader's sisterprayed, 'Holy mother! Is there a way out?' The old woman said, 'There is but it is tough. Take the boy out through back door.Don't let him rest under the tree on way.

At bride's house lead him in through the back door. At the time of wedding sit by with unboiled milk in unbaked clay pot witha burning stick of wood. When the snake appears offer it milk bowl and as it tries to drink the milk brand it on the neck withburning stick.

Later the she snake would come and ask for the snake. Demand your six dead nephews from it. They will get revived. Donot tell this thing to anyone or you and the listener both shall die. And so shall the boy.'

The trader's sister reached her brother's home. When the marriage party set out she made her nephew to leave homethrough back door. Just then the front door collapsed. She accompanied the marriage party in spite of the protest of othermembers.

On way, the party wished to rest under a tree. But the aunt made her nephew (the groom) sits in the sun away from thetree. The tree suddenly fell down. The people praised the act of the aunt. At the bride's house she declared that the groomwould enter through back door. Her demand was met.

As the 'room entered the house-through back door the front door collapsed down. At the time of rounds around holy fire bygroom and bride, she sat with raw milk bowl and burning stick of wood. During the seventh round the snake appeared.

The woman placed milk bowl before it. As it began to lick milk she branded the snake on its neck with burning tip of thestick. Later, a she snake came and asked for the snake. The aunt said, "First get me my six nephews. Then you shall haveyour snake." The she snake made her six dead nephews come alive and went away with the snake.

The marriage party celebrated this miracle and cheered up the aunt. Back home, on the 7th day of Shukla the auntperformed pooja of Dubri. So it is called 'Dubri Saten'. That set the tradition of Dubri Saptami or Saten. The fast performerspray, 'a Dubri Ma! Protect me just like you protected the seven nephews of the aunt.'
