From The Desk of President FONC

Hi Docwegians, Since we last met, the AGM has been run and won. Well, depends if you deem re-electing me as President again as a win or not, but you get what you deserve (ala Joolia). At least I didnt have to bare my arse to Bob Brown to remain in power. Theres an unpleasant picture right there. There were a few changes to the committee, some old faces back and a new face to help Bruffy. Thanks to the Pink One for steeping up to work under me as vice President; should be interesting! Also Tom Griffiths volunteered to give some much needed assistance to Bruffy as associate Editor of the magazine. Suellyn took on the very involved and important role of manag-ing the 404 licensing. Thanks to Pinky, Suellyn and tom for their commitment to the club. I would also like to extend the clubs thanks to outgoing VP Jeff James, who has stepped down from many years on the commit-tee to concentrate on his business life. From all at DOCWA Jeff, thanks for your hard work and input during your time on the committee, hope you still have time to join us on rides. Maybe we can arrange a longer ride than the recent ride you went on from Causeways!!!!! There is still a position vacant on the committee, carried over from the AGM. We still require a Publicity Officer, which is really just liaising with the local newspapers, motorcycling magazines etc, to inform the outside public of any events DOCWA are put-ting on, taking part in etc. It isnt a very involved role, but it is one that can make a big difference to the profile of the club, so we are seeking a volunteer to fill this role. We will do an email out with the position description, so if you are interested in help-ing the club in this role, please see me or any of the Committee for more info. The weather recently has been crap and forced the cancellation of the July club ride and the August breakfast rides, so no stories in this issue for those rides. However, spring is nearly upon us, the best time of year for riding, so keep an eye on the Next Events page in the back of this magazine and on the webpage for dates, details etc. Names are now being taken for the next DOCWA Collie Trackday, which is on Saturday 8 October, so get your name and mon-ies in to Pinky ASAP. I unfortunately wont be there to coach guide and educate both on and off the track this time. Lady Fonc and I will be cruising the Mediterranean, visiting the Ducati factory and Museum in Bologna, travelling through Italy and smoking opium in Istanbul. This means I will also miss Phillip Island and Sepang GPs. I would rather be at Collie and Sepang in all honesty; the company will be better. Also keep November 4, 5, 6 dates free, as the Perth Motorcycle and Scooter show is on again and we will be asking for some members to display their bikes at the entrance to the show. This is also the Mogumber weekend, so a bit of a clash but Im sure we will cover both. So keep an eye on the webpage for upcoming breakfast and club rides, have a great time at Collie and the GPs and see you all when I return, on the downhill side of 50. Faaaaarrrrck!!!! PS: It has been pointed out to me that I may inadvertently have forgotten on the night of the AGM to recognise the efforts of Mike and Pauline Warren for their organisational prowess in making the Deep Down South Ride earlier in the year. To Mike and Pauline, my apologies for the oversight on the night, but please be assured that your top work didnt go unnoticed nor unap-preciated and all in the club thank you for your fine work in making the event one of the years most memorable. Cheers. FONC

    From (one of the) Editors

Are you coming to the NUMDUC Rally? Hell yeah! I replied, having no idea what a NUMDUC Rally was. My past experiences of rallies were both very distant and unpleasant. As a young boy in the early 70s my old man would make me and my brother Dave get up at stupid O clock to watch the New Zealand round of the World Rally Series pass through my home town of Napier at 3 am, via a special stage. Back then not much went on in New Zealand at a world level (or a domestic level, or any level for that matter) so my dad thought that it was important that (despite our protesting) we should be part of it .My memories of these occasions are of standing in the forest in freezing rain in the middle of the night on a 45 degree bend and waiting and waiting.. and then in a split second your corneas would be burnt out by the second brightest thing in the known universe as the 178 blazing spot lights on an Audi Quattro approached, it would take the right angle bend at 700 mph while simultaneously peppering every spectator on that bend (me, my Dad and my brother Dave) with about a bucket full of sharp blue metal that was also travelling at 700 mph- then the sound of the exhaust would burst your ear drums just for good measure. After we had endured this about 10 times over a four hour period we would go home - hypothermic, blind, deaf, covered in bruises from head to toe and usually bleeding from the eyes or the ears or both. My Dad loved it! I struggled to see the point. But I was pretty shore that a NUMDUC Rally it wasnt going to be this kind of Rally. The other type of Rally also included me, my Dad and my brother Dave but this time with the added dimension of my Mother. This was never a good combination! .Once a year the swimming club that we belonged to would have a car rally. Those ones were you get clues that lead you to the next clue that lead you to the next clue that eventually leads you to a mystery destination where you supposedly have a fantastic picnic and ripping good time with all of your mates from the swimming club. If you have ever been on one of these you will know that the reality of these rallies is vastly different from this picture and they are just HELL. My parents would start fighting about what the first clue meant and would continue hurling obscenities at each other all day as we got progressively more and more lost and further and further away from the mystery destination. Eventually we would open the sealed envelope that we had been given at the start that revealed the mystery destination (for those too stupid to be able to follow the clues). After turning around and driving for 3 hours in the opposite direction to that which we had been travelling we would arrive just as it was getting dark and everyone wa
