    The DuHybrid air-conditioning system is connected to both thermal energy (Solar Thermal, Cogeneration,

    Waste Heat, Geothermal Water) and electricity sources.

    DuCools chiller-ree, desiccant-based dehumidifcation

    and cooling technology was recently used in the six-story

    building, Athens, Greece to save 90% on energy costs.

    The 600 square meters (6,500 square oot) building is

    now cooled with only 6 kW o electricity to save 16,854

    ($22,000) in energy costs per year and 28.09 per square

    meter ($3.38 per square oot ). DuCools technology uses

    geothermal water and hot water rom a solar thermal

    system to provide cooling and dehumidifcation.

    The management considered a conventional solution

    which would have consumed 59 kilowatts o electricity

    or an annual energy cost o18,762 ($24,700) during

    2,650 annual hours o operation.

    Instead, management utilized a much more energy- and

    cost-efcient approach based on DuCools desiccant-

    based dehumidifcation and cooling technology. The

    DuCool DH-3400 unit treats the outside air to comort

    conditions using only solar-heated water at a temperature

    o approximately 65C (149F) and geothermal well water

    at approximately 19C (66.2F).

    Solar Air-Conditioning Dehumidifcation/Cooling Saves

    up to 90% in Energy Costs600 square meters (6,500 square foot) building cooled with only 6 kW

    of electricity. Energy savings amounted to28.09 per square meter

    The DH-3400 provides 100% resh air to the building,

    providing a substantial improvement in indoor air quality.

    The use o concentrated natural salt as the air treating

    media not only dehumidifes and cools the air to very

    comortable levels but also eliminates approximately

    91% o microorganisms rom the air and approximately

    80% o airborne particles larger than 5 microns, providing

    additional improvements in indoor air quality.

    The total investment in the new approach including

    the solar panels, geothermal well and DuCool DH-3400

    unit is approximately 80,000 ($105,000). The energy

    consumption is only 6 kW which amounts to a cost o only

    1,908 ($2,512) per year, a savings o16,854 ($22,180)

    per year. These energy savings pay back the 44,000

    ($58,000) additional investment in the DuCool unit in

    only 2.61 years.
