The week began with a fabulous second hand book exchange. A large number of books were brought in by students from home and swapped for ‘new’ books. It truly is wonderful to see children reading for enjoyment. A key message to reinforce with your child is that it doesn’t matter what your child reads, so long as they are reading – encourage books, magazines, newspapers or even comics! Following the book exchange we held our Book Parade. We thank parents and students who took the time to create costumes that reflect the wide range of books read by students. Congratulations to all those who participated. The school presented a Certificate and a $20.00 Scholastic Voucher to one student from each block for their costume. I also presented two book awards to each block again, for the wonderful effort put into costumes. The following students were the lucky recipients of awards: Brianna Bell – Queen of Hearts Nolan Du Randt – Clown Georgiana Beeton –Dorothy Wizard of Oz Brooke Atkins – Fantastic Mr Fox Rory Lee – Shaggy (Scooby Doo) Abbie Nield – The Mad Hatter Alicia Hancock –Wicked Witch of the West Carman Perry – Alice in Wonderland Markus Simpson – Ginger Meggs A huge thanks to the Literacy Committee and Mrs Searle for all their time, effort and organisation. This day saw student rotate through different classes participating in a range of different science activities. This was another fabulous day which again highlighted how much fun learning can be. This day also culminated in a ‘Mad Scientist Dress up Parade’. There were indeed some very interesting, exciting, colourful and in some instances rather odd creations put together. The following students we awarded prizes for their wonderful costumes. A great deal of organisation went into coordinating the day which was made possible through the work of Mrs Oversby. I know your efforts were greatly appreciated by both staff and students. Despite the long drive and the terrible weather conditions, the group put on an amazing performance. They even featured on the front page of the MRPS Newsletter. This special trip would not have been possible without the tireless work of Vince Marino and Paul Morrison. Thank you both for all the time and effort put into supporting this wonderful program. P&C Fathers Day Stalls Next Tuesday 30 August and Thursday 1 September the

DPPS P&C will be running a Fathers Day Stall. All students

will have the opportunity to purchase something special for

their Dad with a large variety of gifts available and at a range

of very reasonable prices. Classes will be scheduled to visit

the stall during the school day. There will also be the

opportunity to purchase gifts during lunch and recess on the

Thursday. So please send your child to school with a few

dollars and I am sure the Dads of Dudley Park will have a

fabulous Fathers Day. Thank you to the P&C members who

have spent a considerable amount of time organising and

preparing this great event.

On behalf of the whole school community I would like to

wish all our Dads a truly wonderful Father’s Day!

Enrolments for 2017 Kindergarten enrolments for 2017 are being called for. It is

crucial as we begin to review staffing for 2017, that we have

confirmed numbers for Kindergarten. If you know someone

that intends to enrol, please encourage them to visit the

school as soon as possible.

It would also be very helpful for anyone intending on leaving

Dudley Park in 2017 to advise the front office. This again

helps ensure that we have the right placement of staff in the

right areas and year levels. Thank you for your support of

this matter.

Contributions and Charges Thank you to those families who have already paid their

Contributions and Charges for 2016. We currently have a

relatively low percentage of families supporting the school

by paying their school fees. I would just like to clarify that

any money received by the school through Contributions and

Charges go directly back to the students through the

purchasing of resources. The money paid in 2016 also needs

to be spent in 2016 so you can be assured that your child /

children will see the benefits this year. Contributions can be

made at the school front office.

Faction Athletics Carnival It was regrettable that we had to make the decision to move

the carnival from Friday 26 August to Thursday 25 August.

Decisions such as these are never taken lightly as we are

very aware that families often need sufficient notice to be

able to attend. Rain is forecast for most of the day on Friday,

so had we left the carnival scheduled for that day, it is highly

likely that it would have resulted in being cancelled. The

decision was made with the best interest of our students in

mind. Thank you all for your support and understanding

regarding this matter.

Results, information and photographs of the day will be

highlighted in the next newsletter—so stay tuned.

Prize Draw Winners Swift Hedges (Room12) was drawn out

at the prize draw assembly and he was

very lucky to win a karaoke machine.

Jarenz Flores (Room 6) was also drawn

out and was very excited to win a huge

bubbles pack. Congratulations to both

the boys as well as all the other winners

drawn out on the day.

Principal

Assembly—Room 16

Mr Smithson's class assembly was based around the book of short poems 'Where the Sidewalk Ends' by Shel Silverstein. They performed 12 of the poems to wow and excite the audience. Each student practiced for weeks and weeks memorising their lines and projecting their voices. On the day of the assembly Room 16 performed to their best and produced one of the most memorable assemblies so far this year, impressing the whole school with their acting and reading abilities. Special mention to Lashae for getting rained on and Jahquela and Michael's little sisters for helping us with one of the poems.

Parking Just a reminder that the car park through the front gates at school is a staff only car park. Please use the car parks outside of the school grounds or the “Kiss and Drop” zone when dropping of or collecting your child/ren. Also, do not park on the footpaths as this may result in an infringement notice from the ranger. Thank you for considering the safety of our students in keeping the traffic areas flowing freely. A reminder to anyone who is authorised to park in the staff car park there is a bay closest to the canteen that is reserved for the Canteen/P&C. Please do not park in their bay.

Does my child need to get to school on time?

YES - Children need to settle in and get prepared for the day. When they are late they miss out on valuable learning time.

To qualify for the Reward Program and Prize Draw your child must be at school before the siren.

Student Details

We regularly have to contact Parents and Carers because a child is sick or injured.

Please ensure your Address and Phone numbers are up to date with the office so we can contact you easily if we have to.

From the Chaplain

The value we will focus on for weeks 6 & 7 is PEACEFULNESS. PEACEFULNESS is an inner sense of calm. PEACE-FULNESS comes in quiet moments of reflection or gratitude. It creates a calm mind free from worry. When you are peaceful, people around you feel calm and safe. Congratulations! You are practicing peacefulness when you: • Create inner peace with a regular time of prayer,

meditation or reflection • Use peaceful language even when you are

angry • Speak gently and respectfully • Avoid harming anyone • Appreciate differences • Find peaceful solutions to every problem

Room 6 Assembly Room 6 performed a fabulous assembly based on the recent Olympic Games. Events ranged from the 100m sprint, gymnastics, weight lifting, a beautiful display of synchronised swimming (as seen in the above photo) as well as cycling. Congratulations to all the students and staff involved in this very elaborate production. It really was the perfect introduction to our Athletics Carnival.

CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to all of the students who received Honour Certificates at the assembly on 25 August 2016.

Healthy Eating Facts Crunch&Sip The Crunch&Sip program operates in classes across Dudley Park. The Crunch&Sip break is not only a great time for children to snack on some fresh fruit and vegies, it is also an opportunity to encourage the drinking of water. Research indicates that children rarely drink enough water and unless reminded, they often forget to drink.

Food and Drink Encouraged All fresh fruit is welcomed and can include

whole fruits such as a banana or apple or you may choose to bring in chopped melon or some peeled and chopped oranges or mandarins.

Dried fruit in small portions can be brought in,

although fresh fruit she be the first choice as dried fruit contains high concentrations of natural sugar and it can tend to stick to teeth, increasing the risk of tooth decay.

All fresh vegetables are encouraged (e.g.

celery or carrot sticks, broccoli bits etc.) A bottle of fresh water every day. No other

drinks are permitted due to their excessive amount of sugar.
