• In 1841, four years before the famine started, there were 3,848 people living in Dundrum.

• By 1851, a year before the famine ended, the population had grown to 3,929.

• The population in Dublin grew during the famine. Why? Was it because it was the capital city? Where all the food went to be shipped off to England? Was the famine not as bad there?

• Dundrum was thought to be a great place for ill people to recover due to the fresh air and nice hills.

• Dundrum’s main crop was not potatoes, like it was where…?

• 30% of the farmland was meadow, there were a lot of goats in Dundrum at the time, they would have provided milk.

• The main crop grown besides this were oats and turnips, more of these were grown than potatoes in the area.

• In 1841, there were 626 houses with people living in them. By 1851 this had risen to 636.

• The number of empty houses also grew, from 54-84.

• Were people moving away from the area?
