Geological Report

Ideal Bay Explorations Limited

Sturgeon Lake, Ontario

Introduction;

Ideal Bay Explorations Limited has acquired 20 claims totalling approximately 800 acres on the south shore of Beidehman Bay, Sturgeon Lake, Ontario.

A line system has been cut on the property and was used to complete a Radem VLF electro magnetic survey on the property in October 1970 and March 1971. This survey located 11 conductors striking east-west and varying in length from 300 to 4000 feet.

These conductors were later verified by means of a magnetometer survey which showed 4 of them to be conjugated to magnetic anomalies. Taking into con sideration the particular conditions existing in the area, geophysicists are agreed that the absence of magnetic anomalie with an electromagnetic conductor does not preclude the conductor from being caused by the underlying presence of sulphides in this environment.

The extent of the electromagnetic conductors is such as to warrant a diamond drilling program to further investigate the cause of the electromagnetic anomalies. Prior to effecting this program it has been recommended to proceed with a geological survey as a base to determine the extent of the program recommended, the actual site and attitude of the drill holes planned. Such a survey was effected between July 4th and lith, 1971, the results of which are given in the present report.

Property;

The property consists of 20 claims staked under licences Nos. 243453 to 243472 inclusive.

They are located immediately south of Deidelman Bay at Sturgeon Lake and extend over the west shore of Cluster Lake. The property lies approximately 45 miles north and east of Ignace, on the Trans Canada Highway, about 2 miles due west of the mill site of Mattabi Mines Limited, presently under construction.

It is easily reached by good gravel road leading to Mattabi Mines and it is also crossed by the power line and the projected railroad going into Mattabi Mines. Several bush roads have been cut across the property in a north-south direction creating good access to any claims for future drilling purposes.

Topography;

The claims are generally low lying and the areas bordering streams, ponds and lakes are either swamps or low ground. Such areas have been indicated on the geological map by the conventional swamp sign.

Areas left in blank are generally flat and covered with a mixed small growth of trees, mainly spruce and poplars with the odd birch patch. This ground is generally covered by overburden exhibiting a few boulders and the depth of overburden appears to be such as to prevent any conclusion as to the under lying formation. Such areas have been left blank on the map.

Overburden and boulder hills have been indicated on the map. These are hillocks rising 20 to 75 feet above the surrounding flatter landscape. They are made up of very abundant and generally very large boulders which can at times be mistaken for outcrops. The amount of boulders present give the impression that they well may be representative of the underlying formation, although the general shape and distribution of these hillocks is suggestive of morainic deposits.

Topography: (Cont'd)

Definite moraines made up of large boulders lying in elongated strips without any interstitial gravel or sand have been observed in numerous locations on the edge of the hills.

Where the ground appears to be underlain by solid rock formation within shallow depth, it is covered by a sparce growth of spruce without the usual mixture of deciduous trees. Ground elevation rises sharply to 100 feet or more in the north-eastern part of the property on claims 243456 and 243459, where granitic and dioritic formations outcrop.

The claims are intersected by the gravel road leading from highway 593 to the Mattabi Mine mill site. A railroad spur line is being brought to the mill site along with a power line and both of these will be crossing the property. A number of access roads and slashes have been cut across the claims to reach these railroad and power lines so that access to most parts of the property will be made very easy. The slashing in progress has been indicated on the geological plan but could be considerably changed and added to in the coming weeks.

Water is within easy reach almost anywhere, which factor would facilitate an eventual drilling program.

Outcrops are quite scarce on the property except over the northern granitic formations. One must be very careful not to confuse large boulders with formations in place since huge blocks first mistaken for outcrops have been later observed to be isolated boulders. This absence of rock exposures render very difficult the correlation between the various outcrops mapped and locating with precision any contacts between formations is presently impossible. It is surmised that a close study of the boulder hills may provide useful information regarding the underlying formations and such a study is recommended.

Geology;

The area has been little mapped geologically. The Department of Mines has published a map in the Geological Compilation series, at 4 miles to the inch. There is also an uncoloured preliminary map published by the Ontario Department of Mines on the Savant - Caribou Lakes Area and the Minnitaki - Sturgeon Lakes Area at 2 miles to the inch. All this is very broad mapping.

Essentially, all underlying formations are Archean Pre-Cambrian and can be divided into Felsic Igneous and Metavolcanics.

The Felsic Igneous occupy mainly the northern part of the property, although outcrops of granitic rocks have been observed in the south-east corner and along the center of the vast border. These two occurrences may or may not be connected under the rather heavy overburden.

The metavolcanics occur along or south of the northern baseline as large boulders without certainty as to their being in place. In the southern part of the claims, andesites have been mapped, definitely in place confirming that the area between the granitic outcrop is likely occupied by basic formations.

Structure:**

These formations are part of a tightly folded synclinal basin with a slight dip to the north. Dips are nowhere evident on the property and the andesite is very massive without any certain sign of attitude.

In the norther part of the claims, in a transition zone between granite and more basic formations, a small occurrence of schist strikes N65E with a vertical dip.

Rock Types;

As seen on the accompanying map, formations vary from granitic (or more acid) in the north-east to gradually more mafic as one moves either west or south, except for the granite occurrences in the south- east corner.

The granite (where indicated by the symbol Gr.) is a defintie, fine to medium grained granite made up of orthoclase, quartz and minor biotite or hornblends. Along the west border, just south of the powerline slash, the same granite is very markedly gneissic.

On the northern claims, a s o ne moves west from the main granite occurrences, plagioclase content appear to increase significantly and the rock may be better described as quartz monzonite, with the quartz being very crystalline and almost amethyst in colour.

When moving south from the granite, the plagio clase content increases and the formation becomes quartz- diorite. In one spot, a acid schist was found between the granite and the diorite.

The dioritic rocks vary over a whole scale from quartz-monzonite to diorite, dacite and andesite. An andesite schist mineralized with pyrite was found in the south-west corner, but definitely no an outcrop.

Petrographic identification and description of each of these formations has been asked and will be reported on separately.

EM Correlation;

A Radem VLF survey has been completed over the full extent of the property. It has outlined 11 con ductors, marked A to J, varying in lenflth from 300 to 4,000 feet.

Conductor A is 4000 feet long and extends across the two ponds in the north-west corner of the claims. It lies on line with some old showings west of the property boundary where copper, zinc, silver and gold have been found. It is also close to the transition zone between the granite and the monzonite or other plagioclase rocks.

Conductor B is 1600 feet long and is also the site of a magnetic anomaly. It is difficult to appraise since it lies mostly under the road leading to Mattabi Mines. It is also in the transition zone and therefrom it is deemed to have significance. Conductor C may be a faulted offshoot of B, as tentatively indicated on the map.

Conductors D and F appear to reflect swamp conditions but conductor E, overlying an elongated hill covered with large boulders is definitely not caused by conductive swamp and must be investigated. The same remark apply to conductor J where, further more, a float containing heavily pyritized schist has been found. This float was much too small and altered to have travelled any distance.

Conductor H is 3,000 feet long and, although running across low ground, its location is offset to the north by 300 to 400 feet from the actual stream and its general course suggests a cause separate from conductive swamp bottom. Its presence close to andesite outcrops and near a possible granite contact, in the east end of claim no. 243468. would locate it in a contact zone between volcanics and acid formations, Its eastern end is very close to conductor J where no reference to low ground can be made.

Conclusions;

The Sturgeon Lake property of Ideal Bay Explor ations Limited straddles two contact zones between granites or granitic formations to metavolcanics of the andesite type.

This contact zone is not a sharply defined contact between true granites and tru volcanics but a transition zone where various rock types are seen to evolve from orthoclase granite and gneissic orthoclase granites to quartz monzonites and quartz diorites to diorite and dacite .

The southern part of the property is definitely underlain by metavolcanics of the andesite type.

The presence of long EM conductors in these contact zones is significant, especially where these are connected with magnetic anomalies or where they are not reflection of conductivity in wet ground.

The length and location of long conductors in the northwest and southern part is such that they could be dissociated from water streams, and, hence, should be investigated by drilling. It should be noted that in the Sturgeon Lake area, disseminated copper-zinc sul phides are not necessarily accompanied by magnetic anomalies and that conductor A, 4,000 feet long, on strike with mineralized showings to the west, in an acid to basic transition zone, should be drilled, along with conductors B, E and H. Reconunendations;

1. To complete a close study of large boulder formations on boulder and overburden hills as a possible reflection of the underlying formations.

2. To have full identification of each rocktyps effected by a petrograph expert in the Sturgeon Lake formation identification.

3. To proceed to diamond drilling of conductors A, B, E and H immediately upon completion of above reconuneddations.
