DURA-BAR CONTINUOUS CAST IRON BARS

Dura Bar is a family of engineered cast iron bar products designed to offer the best combination of machinability, sliding wear resistance, heat treat response, noise and vibration damping and guaranteed mechanical properties when compared to most other as-rolled ferrous materials. Dura Bar can often be used to replace castings, some carbon steels, bearing bronze at times and extruded aluminum materials. Due to its outstanding milling and drilling characteristics, heavily machined components are usually excellent candidates for Dura Bar products to help reduce manufacturing costs. A full range of metallurgical, engineering, heat treating and machining data can be provided from Alro product specialists upon request.Cast Irons are not typically referenced by chemistry rather mechanical properties, specificallystrengthandhardness.The primary difference in these types is the shape and distribution of graphite in their microstructure. TYPE G1A DURA-BAR GRAY IRONDura-Bar G1A has Type D graphite in a predominantly ferrite matrix. TYPE G2 DURA-BAR GRAY IRONG2 is a pearlitic gray iron containing Type A graphite. TYPE 65-45-12 DUCTILE IRONDura-Bar 65-45-12 ductile iron contains nodular graphite in a matrix of ferrite with small amounts of pearlite. Because of it’s unmatched combination of machinability, mechanical properties and heat treat response, Grade 65-45-12 is the most often chosen material of all the Dura Bar iron types. The ferritic structure produces the most machinable ferrous grade of material available anywhere in combination withgoodsurfacefinishes,optimalimpactstrengths,fatigueproperties,electricalconductivity and high magnetic permeability. This iron has approximately the same tensile and yield strengths as AISI 1020 steel in the as-rolled condition. ThisspecificationconformstoASTMA536grade65-45-12.

TYPE 80-55-06 DUCTILE IRONDura-Bar 80-55-06 ductile iron will contain nodular graphite in a matrix of ferrite and pearlite. The pearlite/ferrite structure provides higher wear resistance and strength when compared to a ferritic grade of ductile iron. This material will be readilymachinablewithgoodsurfacefinishes.Tensileandyieldstrengthswillbesimilar to AISI 1040 steel in the as-rolled condition. This grade conforms to ASTM A536 grade 80-55-06.

201 TYPE 1 NI-RESIST DURA-BARNi-Resist irons contain an austenitic matrix with about 10% alloy carbides. The austenitic structure is suitable for corrosive environments in sour well oils, salts, salt water acids and alkalies. The iron is relatively soft and chrome is added to produce carbides that help improve wear resistance.Ni-Resistismoredensethangrayorductileironsandwillhaveahighercoeffi-cient of thermal expansion. Dura-Bar Type 1 Ni-Resist is manufactured to produce a material conforming to ASTM A436, Type I.
