• Responsibilities- things we should do• Duties- actions we are required to perform
Duties• Obey Laws• Pay Taxes
– Used to pay gov’t employees, defend the country, or help people in need
• Defend the Nation– Males 18-25 must register with the Selective Service System
(SSS) can be drafted• Serve in Court
– Jury duty/witness at a trial if called to do so• Attend School
– Taught knowledge and skills to be good citizens– Gain skills that will help students become productive workers
Responsibilities
• Informed and Active Citizen (Voting)• Respect the rights and property of others– Very diverse nation- respect and accept others
regardless of differences-- Tolerance• Contribute to the common good– Show concern for others as well as yourselves (i.e.
Safe streets, good schools, & clean environment)• Participate in your community and
