Wishing Bodhichitta4 immeasurables

• Loving-kindness (Pāli: mettā, Sanskrit: maitrī) towards all: the hope that a

person will be well; "the wish that all sentient beings, without any exception,

be happy.“ ( antidotes desire)

• Compassion (Pāli and Sanskrit: karuṇā): the hope that a person's

sufferings will diminish; "the wish for all sentient beings to be free from

suffering.“ ( antidotes hatred)

• Empathetic joy (Pāli and Sanskrit: mudita): joy in the accomplishments of a

person—oneself or another; sympathetic joy; "the wholesome attitude of

rejoicing in the happiness and virtues of all sentient beings.“ ( antidotes

jealousy)

• Equanimity (Pāli: upekkhā, Sanskrit: upekṣā): learning to accept loss and

gain, good-repute and ill-repute, praise and censure, sorrow and happiness

(Attha Loka Dhamma), all with detachment, equally, for oneself and for

others. Equanimity is "not to distinguish between friend, enemy or stranger,

but regard every sentient being as equal. It is a clear-minded tranquil state

of mind—not being overpowered by delusions, mental dullness or agitation.“

(antidotes pride)

Developing Bodhicitta with Four

Boundless Attitudes

May all beings have happiness and the cause of

happiness.

May they be free from suffering and the cause of

suffering.

May they never be dissociated from the supreme

happiness, free from suffering.

May they remain in boundless equanimity, free from

both attachment to kin and hatred to foes.

May I be a guard for those who are protectorless

A guide for those who journey on the road;

For those who wish to go across the water,

May I be a boat, a raft, a bridge.

May I be an isle for those who yearn for landfall,

And a lamp for those who long for light;

For those who need a resting place, a bed;

For all who need a servant, may I be a slave.

May I be the wishing jewel, the vase of plenty,

A word of power, and the supreme remedy.

May I be the trees of miracles,

And for every being, the abundant cow.

Like the great earth and the other elements,

Enduring as the sky itself endures,

For the boundless multitude of living beings,

May I be the ground and vessel of their life.

Thus, for every single thing that lives,

In number like the boundless reaches of the sky,

May I be their sustenance and nourishment

Until they pass beyond the bounds of suffering.

Salvia divinorum

Om Somaaya namahhas been used in religious and healing

ceremonies by the Mazatec Indians, who

live in the province of Oaxaca, in Mexico.

Dale Pendell, in his book

Pharmako/poeia, assigns Salvia

divinorum to a unique pharmacological

class, which he calls "existentia." This

term alludes to the philosophical

illumination Salvia seems to shine on the

nature of existence itself.

The plant is mostly used when shamans

felt they needed to discover the cause of

a patient’s illness in the supernatural

world. The shaman entered in a visionary

trance that allowed him to see what steps

have to be taken to cure the patient.

shamanism, prediction,

meditation and searches for

the divine, tuning in to the

qualities of the Green World.

Homework• Do a self review at bedtime and acknowledge arisings of five

poisons during the day. When did I feel jealous, angry, grasping, arrogant? Try to notice them when they arise as well.

• Spend at least 60 minutes a day (if you can) doing meditation, mantra, tonglen, 5 element offerings, Samanthabadra prayer, Bodhichitta prayers, or your own practices if preferred.

• Study the concepts given and do extra reading if desired in the optional texts.

• Learn the gunas, elements, and planets. There are no quizzes in this course but to complete the final projects you will need to know this information. WEAK POINT of 2008 group.

• Within one hour after sunrise, (the planet’s first hour/hora) chant the mantra of the planet of the day and contemplate its qualities.

• Start to clock your meditation time – 60 hours required for graduation. CVH for just this program and DVH with Caduceus modules 1-5.
