Installation

This manual describes the procedures for installing and operating the DVRNS (DVR Name Service) Server program.

Caution The DVRNS server should be installed on a PC using a static IP address. If NOT, the server might NOT be operated properly.

Caution The DVRNS registration of the DVR will be limited to only one DVRNS server. The DVR cannot be registered to multiple DVRNS servers.

To install the DVRNS server:

1. Run the IDNSsetup.exe file.

2. When the following Setup dialog box appears, click Next.

3. Select the location to install the program, then click Next. The default location is set up as C:\Program Files\IDNS DVRNS.

4. Enter the group name registered on the Windows Start menu, and click Next.

5. Check the Create a desktop icon box and click Next. If you check this box, the icon will be created on the desktop after installing the program.

6. Review the changes that you have set, and click Install to install the DVRNS server program with these settings. Select Back to move back to the previous step to change the settings.

7. The program will be installed on your PC. Select Cancel to cancel the installation.

8. Click Finish to complete the installation. If you check the Launch DVRNS Server box, the DVRNS server program will run automatically after installation.

Operation

After installing the DVRNS server program, you will find the DVRNS Server icon on the desktop of the PC. Run the DVRNS server program by double-clicking the icon. If you select the Launch DVRNS Server option during setup, the program will launch automatically after installing the program. The DVRNS server will operate right after running the program, and includes the pages of DVRNS Table, Log and Setup.

DVRNS Table

The DVRNS Table page displays the information of registered DVRs. Click Delete to delete the selected item in the list.

DVRNS Log

The DVRNS Log page displays the information of DVR registration and search requests. Click Save to save the Log information to the text file and click Print to print the Log information to a connected printer.

DVRNS Setup

The DVRNS Setup page allows the user to change the server settings. Click Change to change the settings.

Settings options that can be changed:

• System: Select a Language to use and set the Date and Time format.• Help Desk: Enter the Telephone number and E-mail address. The Help Desk

information you have set will be displayed in the DVRNS Setup screen on the remote.• Network Option: Setup the IP Port number (from 10000 to 12000) that is used for

network connection with the remote DVR. The default IP Port number is 10088.• Security Option: Set up the Password if password confirmation is required Before

Setup, Before Startup, or Before Shutdown of the DVRNS server. Click Password... to set up the password.

Example Setup Procedure

Setup DVRNS Server on HRHD Unit

1. Install the IDNS/DVRNS program on a server that will be operational at all times (see Installation on page 3). Obtain the static IP address of the PC that the IDNS/DVRNS is installed on.

2. Go to the LAN Setup screen on your HRHD DVR unit (Main Menu ➤ Network Setup ➤ Connection LAN Setup...).

3. Enter the static IP address of the PC the IDNS/DVRNS program is installed on in the DNS Server input box.

4. Go to the DVRNS Setup screen on your HRHD unit (Main Menu ➤ Network Setup ➤ DVRNS Setup). Check the Use DVR Name Service check box.

5. In the DVRNS Server field, enter the static IP address of the PC that you installed the IDNS/DVRNS program on.

6. Enter a name for your DVR in the DVR Name field, and click Name Check.

7. The HRHD will communicate with the IDNS/DVRNS program. The name you have entered will be checked against other Registered DVR names in the DNS table. If your DVR name is not present it will be registered and you will get a message indicating the DVR name is available. Click OK.

8. The HRHD DVR name will appear in the DNS table in real time.

Configure RAS to Communicate with the DVRNS

Do the following to configure RAS to communicate with the DVRNS program for DVR name to IP address translation.

1. Launch RAS and click on the Local Setup icon.

2. The Setup - Admin screen appears.

3. In the DVRNS Server fields, enter the static IP Address of the PC you installed the IDNS/DVRNS server program on.

4. Select the Remote Site tab and click Add... to add a site.

5. Check the Use DVRNS(DVR Name Service) check box.

6. Enter a Site Name.

7. Enter the DVR Name that you entered on the DVRNS Setup screen on the HRHD unit.

8. Click OK.

9. The site will appear in the remote site list with the DVR name appearing under Address. The DVRNS program will keep track of IP address changes for you, RAS will only need to know the name of the DVR and the static IP address of the IDNS/DVRNS program. Click OK.

10. You can now connect to the DVR using RAS and the Remote connection screen.
