Dwar EcodesignEthnic Eco-conscious Architecture

Dwar is a consortium of creative minds that have come together with a common goal of creating meaningfully designed living spaces in the city of Bangalore. This flourishing endeavour had humble beginnings, which can be traced back to a single piece of land on Dickenson Road. The process of acquiring this plot, restoring its heritage value and transforming it into a residential asset led to the birth of an idea. One successful project inspired a greater vision – of building handcrafted homes that make mindful architecture accessible to all those who want more than just a roof over their head. Thus was born DWAR.

To achieve an equitable balance between the planet, people and profit, while creating sustainable and innovative urban residences. Urbanization all over the world has compromised the environment instead of contributing to it. At Dwar, we have changed this by building homes that are not just aesthetically appealing but also ecologically and socially responsible. Intersections, often at cross purposes, exist between the planet, people and profit; a fine balance needs to be achieved between all three. We lead the way to realizing this ideal.

The homes we build are almost free of mass-produced or factory made design elements. All our work is done on site, and an exceptional effort is made in handpicking all building components. Additionally, indigenous hand-crafted alternatives are used wherever possible. Intricate embellishments like exposed brick and stone walls, mirror frames, ceramic and artefacts created from recycled materials, terracotta jali blocks, wrought iron railings and carved woodwork add to the uniquely hand-made feel of every villa.

Handcrafted HomesA Skilfully Handmade Living Experience

Our unique aesthetic is born from a fondness for indigenous art and a deep admiration for the natural world. Elements of Nature organically assimilate into Dwar’s signature living spaces, which typically have minimal walls, often, high ceilings and open-plan layouts that spill into lush landscaped outdoors. We consciously design to facilitate cross-ventilation and make the most of available sunlight. Rustic elements like sloping Mangalore tile roofs with glass inlays in calming earth colours add warmth to our contemporary designs.

AestheticsWhere Nature, Art& Architecture Unite

Almost all the construction material we use is either procured or produced locally in an attempt to stay true to our vision of being ecologically sound. Materials used to build a home are precious and limited; hence, we attempt to maintain a zero waste construction site.

Our choice of local materials is made at the time of conception, and is maintained all the way till the final finishes. We create living spaces that are meticulously crafted and impeccably finished to the very last detail.

BUILT TO SUIT – Buy a custom-designed homeWe acquire land in some of the most sought-after residential areas in Bangalore, where we envision building homes that align with our philosophy. By booking a home at an early stage, we hope that you will join us in the design process – enabling us to give you a living space that perfectly meets your requirements. Even when you buy a completed Dwar villa, you do have the option of requesting minor changes.

DESIGN BUILD – We build on your plot If you already own a property, we can custom-design a home for you on your land. We will build you a home that suits your lifestyle and meets yours needs, but still reflects our aesthetic and philosophy.

EnvironmentReduced Carbon Footprint

Dwar aims at giving back to the environment instead of taking from it. Our team makes a conscious effort to study the effects of development on the environment, and finds creative solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of each home. We try to be constantly and consciously aware of technological advancements so they may be effectively used to contribute to sustainability.

Rainwater harvesting is incorporated and grey water reclamation is recommended to ensure very little water leaves the site. Roof top food gardens are nourished with minimal-waste drip irrigation systems. Solar photo-voltaic panels are recommended for the generation of renewable energy. Our designs inherently include carefully planned cross ventilation and plenty of skylights to reduce power usage during the day. We believe that we must responsibly share the resources of the earth with all its inhabitants, human or otherwise, and our designs reflect this belief.

How green will my Dwar home be?

Every eco-villa has solar panels for hot water and a provision for photo-voltaic panels that can sustainably generate electricity. Rain water harvesting is provided and grey water reclamation is recommended in all homes. Drip irrigation systems are provided for efficient terrace gardens. Restored vintage doors and windows and recycled materials further reduce the carbon footprint of a Dwar home. Besides this, we aim at maintaining a zero-waste construction site and use locally sourced construction materials. We ensure non-toxic indoor air-quality. Upon request we could conform to LEED certified Green Homes standards, as evaluated by the IGBC.

Why DwarWhy should I buy a Dwar home?

One of the primary benefits of owning a plot of land and a stand-alone home, is that you can benefit from land appreciation. Historically land appreciation has provided maximum returns in any diversified asset portfolio. Besides, a home is probably the best place for you to secure your wealth.

Dwar homes typically have a spacious open plan kitchen-living-dining area, 3 or 4 bedrooms with a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom in each, sometimes an upper level family room, a pooja niche, outdoor lounge spaces (sit-outs or patios with skylights), a segregated staff area with utility space and washrooms, and a landscaped terrace with gazebo and entertainment area. Each villas is embellished with works of young talented artists and local craftsmen. You will even find design accents created by ceramist / architect Adil Writer and Mandala Pottery of Auroville. Expect well-ventilated and naturally lit layouts with a stack effect, which creates a serene, welcoming environment within the villa.

Our designs align with the cosmic principles of Vaastu Shastra.

What can I expect in a Dwar Home?

Dwar is committed to bettering lives by ensuring that not only monetary consideration, but also prosperity trickles down to all those involved in the construction process. Financial incentives and health care benefits are offered to all our employees, labourers and artisans.

More importantly, our connection with our workforce doesn’t end with paying them fairly; we go a step further by investing in the improvement of their skills, helping them build better homes for themselves and educating their children.

All our landscaping is done by a company run entirely by differentially-abled people.

We support local artisans thereby aiding cottage industries. We provide young artists with a platform so they can showcase their work. Artists supported by us have greatly benefitted from their association with Dwar, and grown to become established names in their field. To keep this cycle going we’re always open to supporting young talent who are looking for a platform for their work. We believe that our growth should spell theirs.

A conscious and continuous effort is made to find ways of spreading wealth and wellbeing to the community that we are a part of.

Share & Care We Believe That Real Growth Can Only Be Measured By The Impact We Have On Society
