Portfolio (artist statement)

Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects I do, I try to link them by communicating a message through each design along with detail images and perfection. The message and design choices of each body of work determine the quality and the focus of the artwork. When creating my artwork I try to focus on a fully rendered realistic design of everything I can see or feel. I want to express and depict the beauty and balance that I see and correctly render details. In my portfolio, I worked on consistency and perfection. I realize with the demands of growing businesses, there is a need for qualified personnel dedicated to producing quality work. Therefore, I wanted my illustrations to be strong and visually appealing. To achieve this, I placed emphasis on creativity and my attention to detail. I focused on correctly positioning my text and images along with the sequencing of my portfolio for a clean presentation. In addition, I included a description of each piece to clarify its purpose.

In my digital layout, I chose type and images that I thought would representand help promote the CD that I designed. I also focused on colors that are visually appealing to the viewer.


Intermediate IllustrationIn this childrens book cover design, I used a Dom Casual BT font and the effect/warp /arc menu.

I created my drawing using one-point perspective.In this sketch, I utilized my shading techniques and employed the appropriate perspective to correctly render these details.

Color TheoryIn this digital design, I used a warm analogous color scheme. The colors I used have a comforting effect on human emotion

and are used descriptively with the light and dark values and expressively with my use of warm colors

In this design I used the illustration of the sleeping apple picker to do an interesting typography design and integrated the text with my apple illustrations using the text wrap.

But I am done with apple-picking now.Essence of winter sleep is on the night, the scent of apples; I am drowsing off. I cannot shake the shimmer from my sightI got from looking through a pane of glass.I skimmed this morning from the water-trough,And held against the world of hoary grass. it melted, and I let it fall and break. But I was wellUpon my way to sleep before it fell, and I could tellWhat form my dreaming was about to take.Magnified apples appear and reappear, Stern end and blossom end, and every fleck of russet showing clear.My instep arch not only keeps the ache, It keeps the pressure of a ladder-round.And I keep hearing from the cellar-bin that rumbling soundOf load on load of apples coming in.For I have had too much of apple-picking; I am overtired of the great harvest I myself desired. There were ten thousand thousand fruit to touch,Cherish in hand, lift down, and not let fall, For all That struck the earth, No matter if not bruised, or spiked with stubble, Went surely to the cider-apple heap asof no worth. One can see what will trouble. This sleep of mine, whatever sleep it is. Were he not gone, The wood chuck could say whether it’s like his long sleep, as I describe its coming on, Or just some human sleep.
