How to Find, Read, and Download E-books

Finding E-books

To begin: go to Catalyst, the library’s new online catalog.

You can access the catalog directly at:

https://catalyst.library.jhu.edu/ Or from the library’s

homepage click on the yellow “Catalyst” link

Downloading an EBL e-book

After viewing online, you may download the full e-book by selecting the “Download” tab

Choose loan length, either 1 or 7 days and then select “Download Book”

E-books already purchased by the library are available for loans of 4 or 7 days.

Adobe Digital Editions is required to download all EBL e-books. If you do not have ADE installed on your computer it is available for free on the EBL download page.

The downloaded e-book will appear in your ADE library.

Its loan length will appear on the upper right side of the book.

After the loan length has expired you will no longer be able to access the e-book.

Uploading an e-book to an e-reader

Connect e-reader to computer using its USB cable.

The device will automatically appear in your ADE account

To upload an e-book to your e-reader, simply “grab and drag” the e-book to your e-reader

To begin you will need to download and register Adobe Digital Editions

To download the free software go to:

http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ Launch the ADE installer and select the appropriate

format, either Windows© for PCs or Mac OS.

After you have successfully downloaded and installed the ADE software it is important that you authorize your computer.

Get an Adobe ID Online

Complete the step for creating an Adobe Account and then return to your ADE installation page and enter your new Adobe ID and click “activate”

Congratulations ! You have now successfully downloaded

Adobe Digital Editions and Authorized your computer.

You may now begin downloading DRM protected material from the Library.
