ADDITIONAL FUNDS

Access to additional funding can often mean the difference between success

& failure for many students. Searching for these funds however can often be

time consuming and frustrating.

This E-Bulletin will provide you with a quick introduction to some of the funds

you may be eligible to apply for. We will keep updating if we hear any more.

Page 4 details the important deadline dates!

The Cross Trust

Eligibility criteria: Provides help for full time HND students (and above) with fees,

travel, accommodation etc. If the applicant was not born in Scotland and also neither

of the applicant's parents were born in Scotland, then the application will not be

considered.

Maxton Bequest

Eligibility criteria: Funds available for persons ordinarily resident in Crieff or Kirkcaldy who are

above school age and engaged in study at Further Education College or University. If you are student

and your local/current address is Glasgow but your home address is Crieff or Kirkcaldy you can still

apply for this fund.

Glasgow Educational and Marshall Trust

Eligibility criteria: Awards can only be made to persons who have lived in the City of

Glasgow for a minimum of five years. Both part time and full time students can

apply.

The Talbot House Trust

Eligibility criteria: One-off grants to students in further/higher education studying Performing Arts

re. Drama, Dance, Music to help with the costs of fees. In exceptional circumstances a contribution

towards equipment and instruments or maintenance and living costs will be considered.

How to apply: Applications available on a form upon request from the correspondent. Applicants

should include detail of any financial hardship and any other reason why special consideration

should be given to their application.

Graham Trust Bursary Scheme

Eligibility criteria: The fund is only open to students with the surname of Graham

or documents of the Graham family to provide education bursaries to students

studying at higher education institutes in the Glasgow area.

Glasgow Highland Society

Eligibility criteria: Students who have connection with the Highlands (for

example, lived or went to school there) and who are now studying in Glasgow.

Grants are normally given for first degrees only.

The South Square Trust

Eligibility criteria: Fine and Applied Arts, to include Fine Art, Goldsmithing,

Silversmithing, Jewellery, Metalwork, Music, Drama and Dance, but

excluding Film, Architecture and Interior Design.

Course type and level considered: Full-time only, practical courses of

undergraduate or postgraduate level, excluding foundation level and research degrees - e.g PhD. Preference given to UK nationals.

The Sidney Perry Foundation Eligibility criteria: The Foundation aims primarily at helping first-degree students who are below the

age of 35 when the course starts. Distance learning, part-time and short courses may also be

considered. Due to limited funds they cannot offer grants to students who wish to study outside the

UK. Maximum grant being £1000

Student Disability Assistance Fund (formerly British

Students Educational Assistance Fund)

Eligibility criteria: Students engaged in a course of study, in any subject, at a higher or postgraduate

level, who are affected by illness, disease, injury or physical infirmity. Priority will be given to those

who are not eligible for funding from LEAs. Mature student. The fund expects students to apply for

the Disabled Students' Allowance before applying and preference is given to those who do not

qualify for DSA.

The Scarr-Hall Memorial Trust Eligibility criteria: People in education in the UK.

How to apply: In writing to the correspondent, including details on the individual

circumstances, why the grant is required and how much is needed.

Glasgow Gold – GHA

Eligibility Criteria: Glasgow Gold is a reward scheme for GHA tenants with an up to date rent

account. Provides help for FE and HE full time and part time students. As long as you have a clear

rent account you can benefit from a range of rewards – from help attending a course to help with

starting a business.
