Headline……

An Inspector Calls….

On Monday afternoon we received the call that Ofsted would be inspecting us on Tuesday and

Wednesday as one of their monitoring visits. For most schools this is a worrying time and I’d

be misleading you if I said it wasn’t for us. However, more importantly, we saw this as an

opportunity to show how we have improved since last January. Although I am not at liberty to

share their judgements until the final document is made public, we were pleased with the

feedback received. This is the start of the journey; a first step towards ensuring that every

single student at this school gets an outstanding education. We will receive the official report

before Christmas and we will share it with you on the website as soon as we do. However, I

would like to acknowledge just how fantastic our students were in their attitude and

behaviour. They showed this school in a great light and did me, and more importantly

themselves, proud.

Mr Daly

Year 9 Options Process: The Year 9 into 10 choices process began recently with the ‘Make the Grade’ careers event. Next Monday students will be asked to provide an early indication of what subject combinations they MAY wish to choose in Key Stage 4. This is not the final choice; the full process will occur in the spring term and will be accompanied by a ‘Choices Evening’ and a choices booklet which will outline all the possible subjects available with information about each.

The information from the early indications form should then prove useful as we begin to consider the curriculum requirements for the year group as a whole as well as individual students. It will also give students and parents the opportunity to discuss these important next steps ahead of the full options process. The form that students will be asked to complete on Monday can be found by following this link: http://www.crawshawacademy.org.uk/Parents/Letters-to-parents/Y9-10_Indicative_Choices_letter-Form_Dec_2014.pdf

Please begin to take the opportunity this weekend to discuss with your child how they may complete this. Remember, it is not the final formal choice!

Hannah Cowell-Jones 11AT:

STUDENT SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT………...

Is a member of a team of three gymnasts who

competed in the Yorkshire Championships on

Sunday, 23rd November. Hannah trains with Gym

Magic in Pudsey and competed in the ‘four piece’

which involves the bars, beam, floor and vault.

Hannah first got involved in gymnastics at an after

school club in primary school where her talent was

spotted by a teacher. Following the teacher’s

recommendation, Hannah’s parents encouraged

her to get her involved in a club where she could

further progress and develop her skills .

Hannah trains everyday with the exception of a Tuesday when she works at the club. She

puts in approximately 22 hours a week of training which has definitely paid off as her team

placed second overall in the Yorkshire Championships! WELL DONE TO HANNAH AND HER

TEAM!

Tom Frankland 10SC, has been spending some of the

school training days playing piano at the Oncology Unit at St.

James Hospital. As Tom plays, passing people donate money for

the Yorkshire Cancer Centre. So far Tom has raised approximately

£200 for the charity. Tom was approached by a Macmillan nurse

and asked to play during an activity day on Thursday, 4th

November to help raise more funds for this worthwhile charity

(right). The oncology ward is having a re-launch in February 2015

and Tom has been asked for an ‘encore’. I’m sure you will agree

that it is extremely generous of Tom to give up his own time to

help raise money for this fantastic charity.

WELL DONE TOM!

On Monday night, the Year 9 football team travelled to Priesthorpe to compete in the West Leeds six-a-side competition. They started strongly and beat Grangefield and Farnley Academy, before losing to the hosts. A draw in the penultimate game vs Leeds West Academy ‘B’ set up a grand finale against their ‘A’ team, where a win for either team would've seen them leapfrog Priesthorpe, top the table and take the spoils. However, it wasn't to be as Leeds West Academy emerged as victors. It was a valiant effort from Hayden Luxford (GK), Alfie Appleby, Greg McKenzie, Jack Gibson, Ryan Bulgin and Tom Hilliard. Hopefully they can bring some of their six-a-side form back to the full team when league matches resume after the break.

Sixth Form Discussion and Debate Group The next meeting of the group will be Monday 8th December at 1.15 p.m. in the Humanities Suite. This week is again “Lucky Dip” week. Students will randomly select from an unseen selection of topics, then give a two minute talk, followed by group comments/contributions.

As part of their fundraising activities, for the past three years the sixth form have raised money for Tong Len to support a student Rano through her education. Staff and students, on their visit to the Gav School in 2012, managed to meet with her and see how she has progressed. She is now a teen-ager and we are proud to continue our sup-port for her and the organisation. The first fundraising event will take place on Friday 12th December at break time in the sixth form area when 12KB will hold a bake sale. If you are around please come and buy a cake for this good cause.

Thank you from the Sixth Form.
