Role of NITA in e-Gov– Agency under Ministry of Communications
– National Information Technology Agency (NITA) was established by an act of Parliament, Act 771, signed into law in December 2008
Main Objectives of Agency are to:
– Regulate the provision of ICT;
– Ensure the provision of quality ICT;
– Promote standards of efficiency and ensure high quality of service in ICT in Ghana

Role of NITA in e-Gov
NITA is empowered to: • Oversee the implementation of a National ICT
Infrastructure project.
• Approve standard, applications and programmes to improve the work of government to ensure higher productivity.
• Responsibility of ensuring that there is efficiency and security in the ICT sector in Ghana
• Mandated to monitor all IT projects, programmesand processes implemented nationwide to meet the aims, principles and strategies for the delivery of ICT in the country.

Electronic Transactions Act 772
• Provides for the regulation of electronic communications and related transactions and provides for connected purposes.
• Applies to electronic transactions and electronic records of every type.
• Promotes “public confidence in the integrity and reliability of electronic documents”
• Promotes “the authentication and integrity of electronic documents”

E-Ghana Project
July 2006 - The World Bank approved a loan of
$40 Million for the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of
Communications
Assist the Government to generate growth and
employment by leveraging Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and
Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
The project has four components and NITA
was established to implement the third component dubbed:

transparency in government’s functions
through improved communications and e-

Network Infrastructure
A telecommunication infrastructure to link government agencies across the
country onto one network to facilitate communication within government.
Building of 180 LTE sites across
the country covering over 180 districts.
Eastern Corridor Fiber Optics 780km going through 27 Districts providing high speed access to National Datacenter and the Internet
• 10Gbps Core and 4Gbps rings Fiber network connecting all Ministries in Ministries enclave. This is being expanded to cover areas not cover in phase 1
