“世界气候研究计划”(WCRP)创建于1980年,是由“国际科学理事会”(ICSU)、“世界气象组织”(WMO)和“联合国教科文组织”(UNESCO)的“政府间海洋学委员会”(IOC)共同发起。

WCRP的两个总体目标是: 确定气候的可预测性; • 确定人类活动对气候的影响。•

WCRP的四个核心计划: GEWEX: 全球能量和水分循环试验CLIVAR: 气候变化性与可预报性研究SPARC: 平流层过程及其在气候中的作用CliC: 气候与冰冻圈计划

WCRP 正在实施2005-2015年战略框架,其目的是:促进对地球系统变率和变化的分析与预测,使成果能够在愈来愈广的实际运用中得到体现,为社会提供直接相关的、有益的和有效的服务。

The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) was established in 1980 under the sponsorship of the International Council for Science (ICSU), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Inter-governmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.

Two overarching objectives:• determine the predictability of climate;• determine the effect of human activities on climate.

WCRP core projects are:

GEWEX: Global Energy and Water Cycle Experi-ment,CLIVAR: Climate Variability and Predictability,SPARC: Stratospheric Processes and their Role in Climate,CliC: Climate and Cryosphere.

WCRP is currently implementing its Strategic Framework for the years 2005-2015, which aims to facilitate analysis and prediction of Earth system variability and change for use in an in-creasing range of practical applications of direct relevance, benefit and value to society.

Diverse working groups onclimate modelling and numerical experimen-• tationobservation, data assimilation and analysis• seasonal and decadal prediction• sea surface fluxes.•

Various cross-cutting activities such as on monsoons, extremes, anthropogenic climate change, atmospheric chemistry and climate, and sea-level rise.

Many co-sponsored activities of the WCRP are designed to improve scientific understanding and knowledge of processes that in turn result in better forecasts and hence benefits to users of climate research.

WCRP is an Earth System Science Partner (ESSP) together with the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), the International Human Dimen-sions Programme (IHDP), and DIVERSITAS.
