Research and Development Organization (As of April 2020)

Denka Innovation Center

14 15Denka Co., Ltd. Denka Co., Ltd.

With the motto, “Open Innovation,” this is a core research and development center in a Denka Group, for further deepened technology and know-how that have been cultivated since the foundation, and inno-vation research for future value creation. This center provides values for all stakeholders not only as a tool for open innovation promotion but also as a place for the contribution to society that is open for communi-ties domestically and overseas.

Advanced Technologies Research InstituteThis institute was launched based on the old central research center where the themes of company’s basic research and mid- and long-term researches were handled. We focus on two themes of “Energy” and “Environment,” which are crucially important for the next generation. In particular, we promote effective research and development in collaboration with other companies, external research institutes, and universities, with respect to new raw materials, for example, secondary batteries and next-generation energy.Life Innovation Research InstituteThe Life Innovation Research Institute was established through the reorganization and merger of the former Central Research Institute's Life Science Department and former Denka SEIKEN Co., Ltd.'s Next-Generation Reagents and Vaccine Develop-ment Department. Aiming to create new technologies and products in the field of preventive medicine, diagnostics and therapy, the Life Innovation Research Institute is working to create new value in the healthcare field through its Diagnostic, and Vaccine & Biomedicine Departments.Infrastructure & Solutions Development Research InstituteThis institute explores infrastructure-related needs, develops technology responding to the new needs, and proposes solutions. It proceeds with the development of new materials from both organic and inorganic points of view as well as focusing on proposals taking one step further to construction and diagnostic technology. We are endeavoring to increase the pace of research and development as much as possible in order to connect more research themes to performance in the short period of time.

The Denka Group’s slogan is “Challenge and Open Innovation.” We understand that there are new, market-driven needs world-wide and so, whilst reinforcing and expanding our existing busi-ness, through the fusion of a number of different technologies, we are accelerating the creation of new value, next-generation business and products. To this end, we believe that it is necessary for us to transcend organizational boundaries and fields, and utilize the entire Denka

Group synergistically. This will enable us to drive research and devel-opment in a way that maximizes the whole Group’s capabilities.

ProductionOur Business Structure

We execute highly distinctive manufacturing in areas including carbidechemistry, petrochemistry, electronic materials, and medical science.

Production at this plant is grounded in carbide chemistry applying an abundance of limestone and electrical power generated by an on-premise hydropower system. It manu-factures a wide variety of products, from cement and special cement additives to chlo-roprene rubber.

Established in 19211 Omi Plant

Carbide, fertilizer, chloroprenerubber, cement, special cementadditives, macromolecularsodium hyaluronate, etc.

The Omuta Plant is the key location for manu-facture of inorganic chemicals. It produces many unique items based on original sinter-ing/electric furnace control technology and nitriding technology.

Established in 19162 Omuta Plant

Inorganic chemical products(fertilizer, ceramics, electronicmaterials, etc.)

The Chiba Plant implements integrated manu-facturing from various styrene resins to the forming process starting from Japan's leading styrene monomer plant to manufacture prod-ucts with features.

Eestablished in 19623 Chiba Plant

Petrochemical products(synthetic resin, chemicalproducts, processed resinproducts, etc.)

The Shibukawa Plant specializes in production of electronics-related items, such as elec- tronic circuit substrates, heat-dissipation components and materials, emitters, struc- tural adhesives, and products for semiconduc-tor processes. As our key plant for organic electronic materials, it has been a pillar of our growth.

Electronic materials andproducts (metal circuitsubstrates, heat-dissipationmaterials, adhesives, dicing tape, etc.)

Domestic Production StructureWe engage in unique production activities at ours major plants nationwide. In 2010,we increased our production capacity for chloroprene rubber to 100,000 tons peryear, the highest in the world. We have also been upping our production capacityfor macromolecular sodium hyaluronate, which has a competitive edge in the market, and protective film for solar battery panels.

The Ofuna Plant creates various high-value added products with advanced technologies such as extrusion molding, adhesive coating, and film processing.

Eestablished in 19495 Ofuna Plant

Processed resin products(synthetic fiber, wrapping tape,high-performance film, etc.)

The Plant has two locations, one in the Isesaki district and the other in the Ota district. It turns out distinctive products fusing its developmental capabilities for resin materials with its processing technology.

Established in 19696 Isesaki Plant

Processed resin products(electronic componentpackaging materials, food product packagingmaterials, fluorine film, etc.)

This was Denka’s first postwar company fo r production and sale in China. It supplies elec- tronic component packag-ing materials to the fast- growing market for elec-tronic- materials in China.
