9:30-Noon: there will be one of the new ASCA courses D,E or F set up in the 100'X185' arena. Experienced handlers with trial dogs or trial ready dogs are invited to come and try the course or just work on skills in a new venue with unfamiliar sheep. You can also work with the sorting chute, take pen, etc. For those of you who are not yet involved with stock, you are invited to come early and watch the trained dogs, visit with the handlers, and get some information about working stock. Noon: Pot Luck lunch followed with the ASCNE meeting. After the meeting activities will include: 1: Intro to stock. Pauli Haggis will take your dog into a small pen with sheep for a few minutes for a stock encounter.

2: Group Activity for you to begin to understand the dog/handler relationship necessary to work stock. You can work your own dog around penned sheep under the supervision of experienced handlers.

3: Duck herding with pairs of human handlers moving ducks around an obstacle course. Begin to understand how frustrated our dogs must get!

4: There will be an agility course open all day, run the course or just work on skills.

5: There is a brook on the property where you can take your dogs for a swim, depending on the water table. It would be helpful to e-mail Bill and Pauli if you plan to work a dog/dogs. Those who give advanced notice will be get priority over those who just show up the day of the meeting. ([email protected]) 860 774 8662

Account balance as of 07/10/11 $13,997.99 (includes $140.54 Rescue Fund) There was a discussion on Shows i.e.: profits/debits. Also discussion of what part of the Rescue show benefits the local foster homes and what goes to ASHGI and ARPH- Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report by Karen Miller and seconded by Dottie Duclos-all in favor. Affiliate Report-Carol Landry

ASCNE Affiliate Report for 7/10/2011 By Carol Landry

A motion was approved by the ASCA Board of Directors to implement and adopt a Strategic Plan. It will help guide the Board in making priority decisions regarding long and short term objectives. I highly recommend that everyone read it (page 19 May/June 2011 AT) as it provides a good deal of food for thought. The highlights of the ASCA Committee Reports: Agility- The Agility Committee has passed several motions dealing with guidelines rather than rule changes. They are geared to provide guidance to clubs hosting trials. They also approved a new design chute tunnel that has a short tunnel instead of the regular hard plastic barrel entrance attached to a chute. The Jump Card motion has come back from the Board for revisions. Conformation- The conformation committee has several motions in the works: Motion #12 regarding Electronic Devices (cell phone use during judging), #13 National Specialty Host Rule 5.4, #14 regarding postmark vs received by date, #15 about posting the goldenrod copy of the judege’s book. DNA- They have been discussing how to handle all the pedigree discrepancies that come up with parentage verification in the DNA Program. They have posted some procedures they would like to have reviewed (page 48). MVA- Motion passed designating tracking points for MVA rules Stockdog- This committee has been very busy with rule changes and changes to the running of the Finals. There are several other hot topics in discussion right now so interested parties are advised to check out the report on page 49. Library Report-Gull Gullicksen There is a new list available with items donated by Pete Dolan. It will be posted on the club’s website. Sunshine Report- Cards were sent to Deb Keach and Bill Haggis. ASCA BoD Report-Pete Dolan New office manager is in place and it is working out quite well. Nothing else is worthy of discussion. Event Updates-

As a member in good standing in ASCNE I hereby agree to the following provisions: 1. To plan each breeding with the intention of improving the Australian Shepherd Breed Selecting sire and

dam for temperament, soundness, health and working ability. 2. Using only individuals who are free from serious hereditary or congenital defects. Screening breeding stock

for hip dysplasia and ocular deformities. 3. Maintain the best possible standards of health for my animals through regular veterinary care and sanitary

housing. 4. As a stud owner, I will refuse any mating which I do not consider in the best interest of the breed. I will

screen the healthy, mature bitches sent to me, for hereditary defects and temperament faults. 5. As a bitch owner, I will properly space litters and protect bitches from unplanned matings. To produce

puppies when I have the time and facilities to provide adequate attention to physical and emotional needs of the litter.

7. I will be discriminating in the sale of my puppies, keeping in mind the Australian Shepherd herding temperament and guardian instinct. I will provide buyers with information about the breed, pedigree, health records, application for registration, and spay/neuter contracts for pet quality puppies. I will monitor and enforce such contracts.

8. I agree to take back any of my dogs that are in need of a new home or to assist in placement of that dog. 9. Protect the interest of the Australian Shepherd Breed, conducting myself in a courteous and professional
