DrRajendraPrasadCentralAgriculturalUniversitycameintoexistenceon7 October,
2016 after conversion of Rajendra Agriculture University, Bihar, Pusa established onrd3 December, 1970. It is named after the most illustrious son of the soil, Bharat Ratna
Dr.RajendraPrasad.TheUniversityoffers9undergraduatedegree,18postgraduatedegree
(includingMBAinAgribusinessprogramme)and09Ph.DProgramme.
TheUniversity has developed a large number of cereals, pulses, oil seeds, tubers,
species,milletsandhorticulturecropsvarietiesfordifferentagro-ecologicalsituations.Ithas
released126importantcropveritiesincludinghybrids.Researchinagriculturalengineering
hasledtothedevelopmentofbetterfarmmachinery.ExtensionactivitiesofUniversityhave
been accelerated through various KVKs. The University has started new initiatives in
conformitywithGovernmentofIndiapolicy.Theseare(i)Doublingfarmersincome(ii)Har
KhetKoPani(iii)Soilhealthmanagement(iv)Enhancingpulseproductionand(v)Morecrop
perdrop,andevaluationofirrigationsystembasedonundergroundpipeline,Microirrigation
systemforintercropSugarcaneandmaizecrop.
In the past two years after becoming a Central University a lot of infrastructural,
academic,administrativeandresearchrelateddevelopmenthastakenplace.Tonameafew,
fortyclassroomshavebeenprovidedwithsmartpodium,sugarcanevarietieswithhigher
sucrosepercentage,bettervarietiesofWheat,Mushroom,Riceandothercropshavebeen
released.Scientistsaredoingremarkablejobinresearchaswellasextensionsothatfarmers
oftheregionandcountryasawholemaygetbene�itted.AsfarastheeducationisconcernedI
wanttosaythatwearecommittedtoprovidequalityeducationwithappropriateskillsto
transformthelivesofourstudents.Itismyprivilegetoemphasizethatwearecreatingoneof
thebestinfrastructuresandateamofhighlyquali�iedanddedicatedfacultymemberstoshape
upthebetterandbrightertomorrowofourstudentswithvariedtalents.PublicationDivision
isprintingvariousbooksandquarterlynewslettertohighlightthoseachievements.Butnow
wearelivinginadigitalera.Thecommunicationscenariohaschangedandwithadventof
technologyweareabletopassonthemessageinstantlyandinabetterway.Tokeeppacewith
thisdevelopment,wehavedecidedtostartpublishingeNewsletter.

thPotentialofBiharAgriculture”atPatnaon27 April 2018. Conference was organized todiscuss working paper prepared by IndianCouncilofInternationalEcoResearch.ItwasattendedbyDeputyCM,ShriSushilModialongwithministersofagriculture,waterresourcesand energy. Agr icul ture Product ionCommissioner and Principal Secretaries ofrelated departmentswere also present. ViceChancellor presented a brief of differenttechnology developed at university whichwerehighlyappreciated.
Work on Mushroom program underTribalSubPlanisgoingoninthetribalvillagesof Jamui district. Vice-Chanellor visited thevillagesinJamuiandappreciatedtheeffortofDr.DayaramprincipalscientistofMushroomProduction. A spawn production unit is alsofunctioninginthisarea.Thesigni�icantpartofwhole spawn unit is that two school goingdaughters of family has been trained to doculturing in Laminar �low apparates. Tribalmembers of the village welcomed the ViceChancellor in traditional way and informedhim that because of Mushroom Productionnowtheyareabletoearnmore.Dr.Dayaraminformed the Vice Chancellor about theprogress in Mushroom Production trainingand said that a very good linkage of Spawnproduction, Mushroom production andMarketinghasbeenestablishedinthearea.

NEW TECHNOLOGY IMPLEMENTED BY DRPCAU, PUSA.
Intheareaslikediaralandswhereelectriclinescouldnotbelaidduetofrequent�loodsandfarmersareforcedtoadopt the costly alternative of dies pumping systems forirrigationtotheir�ileds.Thelighttexturedsoilandundulatingtopography of these lands require frequent watering. TheSolarTreeswhichareconsideredsaferfromtheintensionaldamagetothepanelsandofferabout20%higheref�iciencyare being tried as an alternative to the diesel pumps. Thesubmersible pumps which can be operated through thissystem further enhances the ef�iciency of pumping andirrigation.Italsoprovidesfavourableenvironmentfortheuseofpressurizedirrigationsystemswhichareconsideredtobethebestalternativeundertheprevailingsituationsofthearea.• Installationcoversonly10m²land.• Costabout5.50-6.00lakh (withoutpumpandtubewell)• 5kw capacitytreecanoperatea5hppump.P
