Winter is technically here, but at CL Industries headquarters
in Orlando, FL it feels more like summer. December
has been abnormally warm, but we’re not complaining.
The warm weather has allowed many of us in Florida to
continue to use our pools. While the southeast is holding on
to favorable temperatures, the rest of the country is cooling
down with Arctic air moving in. As we ring in the New Year,
let’s all resolve to use our swimming pools more in 2015.
In the Winter edition we highlight the 2014 International
Pool Spa & Patio Expo, as well as go behind the scenes of
our Craftsman Series with Monogram Custom Pools and
Premier Pool Renovations.

Behind the Scenes: Monogram Custom Pools
At CL Industries, we pride ourselves on working with the
best swimming pool builders, applicators, and landscape
architects in the world. In our second installment of the
Craftsman Series, we highlight Lehigh Valley, PA builder
Monogram Custom Pools.
Tony Caciolo, owner of Monogram, has created a
homeowner’s dream, an “energy efficient, hassle-free pool.”
A huge part of the “hassle-free pool” is a custom Monogram
pool finish by CL Industries and Pentair’s IntelliChem
System.
The custom Monogram Blue finish is composed of a durable
pebble based plaster. The pebble will last a lifetime, and the
blue colored quartz in our proprietary finishes are resistant
to chemical and mechanical wear. The customized dark pool
finish keeps the water warmer by holding in the sun’s heat
due to its grayish background dye.
The IntelliChem system keeps our finishes looking brand
new because it automatically adds the proper chemicals
to Monogram’s pools by monitoring the water chemistry
on a 24 hr basis. The system utilizes saltwater chlorination
so you never need to add chlorine. This automated system
even comes with an advanced iPhone app that Tony helped
foster by beta testing and providing suggestions during
its inception.
Monogram even digitally monitors and manages the entire
pool system from their headquarters. In the event of a
problem, they will send customers an email immediately.
Monogram Custom Pools
prides itself on 100% customer
satisfaction, which is no small
feat, as any business owner
will tell you. It’s no wonder
that Monogram Custom Pools
was voted one of the top 5
pool builders in the USA for
customer satisfaction. We
appreciate Tony’s tireless
dedication to his customer’s
pool water chemistry, because
that means our products look
new for years and years!
Special thanks to Tony and the entire Monogram team for
taking such pride in their craft.

2014 International Pool Spa & Patio Expo
This year the International Pool, Spa, and Patio Expo moved in to our own backyard at the Orange County Convention Center. Previously held in Las Vegas, the International Show attracts vendors and attendees from every corner of the world. This year we strategically positioned our booth in the Genesis 3 Pavilion. Genesis 3 is the leading educator for high end swimming pool design and construction worldwide. Many of the Genesis 3 members use CL Industries pool finishes.
The show exhibits were held November 5-7th. The expo featured live demonstrations and product displays, powerful education seminars and engaging networking events. Exhibitors run the whole gamut from pool, spa and patio product suppliers, to manufacturers and service product providers. Attendees range from the largest group of retailers, builders, and service professionals to landscape architects and designers from around the globe. This year our booth was visited by builders from all over the United States as well as Kuwait, Peru, Trinidad, Tortola, Spain, Ukraine and the Turks & Caicos. Many attendees were attracted to our booth because of the content displayed on our digital displays. While other pool finish manufacturers simply displayed their product samples, our approach was to loop our compelling content. This strategy was coupled with the availability of our knowledgeable sales staff who manned the booth.
The International Expo is always an excellent opportunity for CL Industries to expand our customer network, meet new people, and check out the innovative companies in the pool, spa, and patio industries. A new addition to this year’s vendors was the social media giant Houzz. Our marketing team met with the folks from Houzz to discuss how this new and innovative company could help expand our reach as well as distribute our digital content. We’re excited to add Houzz to our social media mix in 2015, and we are currently working on our profile and strategy.
Overall, we feel the 2014 International Pool, Spa, and Patio Expo was successful for CL Industries. Our sales team connected with several potential new customers and solidified existing relationships. We’re all excited and look forward to a prosperous and successful 2015.

Ask an Applicator
This edition’s “Ask an Applicator” is fielded by pool plaster
extraordinaire Jon Temple, of Tempool Inc. in Jacksonville,
FL. Jon has been plastering swimming pools for over 20
years, and has traveled the globe applying his craft. Our next
installment of the “Craftsman Series” will feature Jon and
Tempool Inc.
Our question comes from Al in Iowa, who is looking to build
a new swimming pool. Al asks “What is the proper thickness
for Sunstone Pearl Ice once it is applied?”
Jon responds, “The proper thickness once exposed for all
plaster finishes, including pebble and glass bead is 3/8”
thick. This thickness should be consistent throughout
the entire swimming pool. At Tempool, we ensure this by
applying a scratch coat first then a second coat. Some
plasterers uses a wetter consistency on their scratch coat
but we use the same consistency on both coats to ensure a
strong bond between the shell and finish.”

Craftsman Series: Premier Pool Renovations
Rowan University Remodel
Premier Pool Renovations has been using our products
for nearly a decade by focusing on large-scale commercial
renovations and residential plaster application.
Over the years they have come to use our PermaKote®
bonding agent exclusively for all of their renovations. After
the demolition and prep work of an old swimming pool,
many applicators do a light acid wash and neutralize the
shell of the pool. This will often remove impurities and make
sure the pH is correct before applying our bonding agent.
Premier’s Field Supervisor, Vince Saracino, believes that
our PermaKote® product is crucial to the success of
their renovations. Vince is a huge fan of PermaKote®
because it increases performance and saves time during
the application process. PermaKote® saves time by
eliminating the need for sand blasting and stripping, and it
increases performance because it acts as a bonding agent
and scratch coat.
Vince and Premier recently undertook the renovation
of the Olympic swimming pool at Rowan University
in Glassboro, NJ where they applied Krystalkrete,
Super Blue. The remodel was under a tight timeline to be
ready for an unveiling party at the start of the semester.
Our Northeast Sales Manager, John Zita, was on site to
provide support and guidance for this massive remodel.
After some long days in the hole (inside the shell of
an unfinished swimming pool) the job was completed
on time and on budget. We are proud to partner with
the best craftsmen in the industry, and Premier Pool
Renovations fits the bill.
