EMERGENCY REGULATIONS, 1936.

The following extract from the Emergency Regulations, 1936, as amended by the Defence (Amendment) Regulations (No. 8), 1939, is re­published for information : —

"(2A) The sender of a postal packet may be required, at the time of submitting the packet to the Post Office, to expose the contents of such packet to any duly authorised Post Office Officer, and, i f so required, he shall fin­ally close the packet in the presence of such

officer, and i f the officer sees fit to accept the packet it shall be handed over to him im­mediately.

(2B) If the sender refuses to comply with the provisions of the preceding sub-regula­tion he shall be guilty of an offence under these regulations and the Postmaster General may further refuse to accept the postal packet.

(2c) The Postmaster General may, in his unfettered discretion, refuse to accept any postal packet or any item of a postal packet the acceptance of which would, in his opinion, endanger life or property."

I N T E O D U C T I O N O F T H E M E T E I C S Y S T E M O F W E I G H T S .

1. The public is hereby informed that it is intended on Ju ly 1st, 1914, to introduce the metric system of

!weights i n the municipal areas of Jerusalem, Jaffa, Tel A v i v and Ha i fa . F rom that date the use of gramme and kilogramme weights w i l l be compulsory, and the use of all other weights w i l l be prohibited. Further­more, after that date, a regular control of al l weights in use for trade w i l l be introduced in the municipal ureas mentioned above, and a l l such weights w i l l have to be verified and stamped with a stamp of the official design issued by the Government of Palestine, showing a crown between the letters ' P ' and ' G ' (representing Palestine Government).

2. I n order to enable the public to obtain the new-weights at reasonable prices and made in accordance with the prescribed specifications the manufacture of metric weights has been undertaken under the super­vision of the Controller of Heavy Industries and D i ­rector of W a r Production, and the weights have been verified and stamped in the prescribed manner under the supervision of the Keeper of the Standards, Depart­ment of Heal th . The distribution and the sale of these weights is in the hands of the municipal councils of Jerusalem, Jaffa, Te l A v i v and Ha i f a , and any person wishing to order such weights should apply to the com­petent municipal council before May 1st, 1944.
