Summer Diary 2013
STAR.CASTLE.HOTELI S L E S O F S C I L LY
Warm greetings from all of us at the Star Castle for summer
2013. With the season quickly approaching we enclose
details of our 80th anniversary special offers, our new
activities package and details of autumn, Christmas and
New Year breaks.
In addition to these we are including special vouchers for all
of our previous guests that can be redeemed against
accommodation at the Star along with a voucher that can be
given to friends who would be first time visitors. We also have
details of special events at the Star that are going on
throughout the summer and into the autumn.
The season 2013 has started encouragingly and we have
been delighted to welcome back many familiar faces.
After a dreadfully wet mid winter we have enjoyed a much
better spring. This culminated in a glorious May bank
holiday that delivered a seamless and abundantly
successful World Gig Championship, the largest event to
date and a real boon to Scilly. We are all hoping, none more
so than Robert with respect to his vines, that the
soothsayers are correct and we get our long overdue settled
summer.
On the travel front we have enjoyed a consistent service
from Skybus with the fleet expansion and technological
improvements they are coping admirably after the loss of
the helicopter service. The new terminal at Lands End is now
open and is a real success offering state of the art facilities
that have dramatically improved customer comfort and service.
We are also looking forward to a new hard runway at Lands End
in autumn 2013 which will further improve reliability.
The Steamship Company must also be congratulated on the £2
million improvements to Scillonian III.
At the hotel we have finished some significant room
refurbishments this winter and completed a rebuild and
total makeover of the swimming pool. We are really pleased
with the end result and hope you will feel it has vastly improved
the whole facility and overall experience. We’re delighted to
announce that the hotel was a winner of Visit Britain’s Taste of
the West award for cuisine in the South West region finishing
alongside Nathan Outlaw who has a two Michelin Star
restaurant near Rock, Cornwall.
On the family front, James and Ella’s children are growing up fast
with Thomas now approaching his first birthday and Sophie will
be starting school in the autumn, doesn’t time fly. They are both
still giving mum the full run around and continue to provide the
rest of the family with ‘round the clock’ entertainment.
Dear Guest
James with Sophie Theresa with Thomas
Ella with Sophie
Sophie is swimming obsessed and is certainly enjoying the new
pool. James has bitten the bullet and was elected as a councillor
on May 2nd. His primary focus is of course on tourism and
transport and he is committed, with his fellow councillors to
deliver a sustainable future for our beautiful destination.
Surely it should not be too tough a task!
Our new arrangement of complimentary golf for our visitors is
working very well with the Isles of Scilly Golf Club and is proving
popular.
Finally we would like to extend our thanks to everyone who
continues to come and visit us and we hope this newsletter
finds you all well. We look forward to welcoming you back at
some point in 2013.
Kind regards, The Francis Family
P.S. Don’t forget to fill in our return slip so you can be included in
