E3-300/E3-400/E3-500 PORTABLE AND RELOCATABLE COUNTERFLOW DRUM MIXERS E3-300/E3-400/E3-500 PORTABLE AND RELOCATABLE COUNTERFLOW DRUM MIXERS Features: The E3 line of continuous counterflow drum mixers marks the next revolution in drum design, combining high productivity and high RAP percentage capabilities with simplicity and reliability. Available in both portable and relocatable arrangements. A continuous full-length main drum is surrounded by an outer RAP drum that fully heats RAP before mixing it with AC. The E3 design features three heat transfer zones: convective, radiant and conductive. Virgin aggregates are dried and heated in the convective zone, RAP and a variable percentage of virgin aggregates are heated in the radiant zone between the main and outer drum. RAP shares heat with virgin aggregate in the conductive zone as it mixes with the injected AC. Unburned hydrocarbons from the mixing zone are drawn into the exhaust gas stream and incinerated. Steam released from RAP is isolated from the burner flame, preventing flame impingement common to other counterflow designs.

Portable Models

Three-axle system with leaf spring suspension is standard on E3-300.

Four-axle system with leaf spring suspension is standard on E3-400 and E3-500.

Special suspensions and air-ride are available. All axles have dual tires and air brakes. Includes kingpin, mud flaps, brake and turn signal lights.

Easy-Erect System

Self-contained hydraulic set-up system. Built-in hydraulic jacks and modular power unit erect drum mixer to working position without the use of a crane.

Engine: 8 hp (6kW) @ 3,600 rpm

Asphalt Injection System

Automatic proportioning asphalt flow regulated by a variable-frequency AC drive with mass flow meter feedback.

Pump: Variable speed, positive displacement.

Flow rates range from 1 t/hr (.91 mt/hr) to 54 t/hr (49 mt/hr).

Motor: Electric, 15 hp (11 kW) variable frequency.

Arrangement: Motor, pump, flow meter and calibration valve are skid-mounted. Complete system pre-piped. System control interlocked with aggregate delivery system.

Drum Drive

Type: Trunnion drive. Low speed, high torque, no slip.

Gear reducer: Parallel shaft-mounted gear reducer with belt-driven input.

Recycle Entry

Side entry inlet located at the beginning of the radiant heat transfer zone of the drum. Inlet chute includes remote control bypass capability for plant calibration.

Drum Flighting

Ported, saw-tooth Vari-Flight™ system. Bolt-in system provides a complete veiling of material for maximum utilization of available BTUs.

AC and Fines Injection Lines

Asphalt and mineral fines injection lines are located at the discharge breeching and extend into the mixing zone.

Mass Flow Meter

Mass flow meter for asphalt pump provides greater accuracy with lower maintenance than rotary flow meters or tachometers by eliminating moving parts and the need for temperature compensation.

Mainframe

All-welded, heavy structural construction, integral with running gear. Frame supports the drum mixer, discharge breeching, RAP collar, inlet/exhaust breeching and burner assembly.

Supports: pin-connected, includes leveling screwjacks. Adjustable pivoting supports under trunnions and mechanical landing jacks.

Burner

Wide-flame Hauck StarJet® burner with high- pressure blower and flame guard. Burner and flame tube are skid-mounted for ease of installation and retractable for full access to mixing zone.

Controls: Automatic with photohelic-actuated automatic draft controller.

Hauck Eco-Star II® burners available.

Rated at sea level, 70°F (21°C) ambient temperature 5% moisture removal 300˚ F (148˚ C) mix temp. Very fine surface and sand mixes will decrease ratings. Plant may be operated at lower rates. Actual production rates will vary in relation to the following operating and material conditions either individually or any combination thereof: drum slope, ambient temperature, percentage of moisture in the aggregate, mix temperature requirement, altitude above sea level, ACF of air available, gradation of material.

System air flows: Air flow may be varied to meet specific requirements.
