EAGLE CALL VOLUME 1, ISSUE 2 SPRING 2010 LETTER FROM THE CHAIR... The 2009-2010 school year is keeping the department of communicaons busy with the addion of the mass communicaon porolio requirement and the proposed master’s program. The porolio was a recommendaon from the Accreding Council on Educaon in Journalism and Mass Communicaons, or ACEJMC. This has been put in place for all mass communicaon majors who declared their major summer 2009 or later. The new porolio requirement will give students a showcase of their work, which they can present to prospecve employers and will be an important part of the department’s assessment process. The porolio will be reviewed and evaluated in COMM 497, Career Planning and Personal Development. USI hopes to implement the new Master of Arts in Communicaon program into the fall 2010 semester. The master’s program has been approved on campus with the USI board of trustees and was submied to the state for approval. The master’s program is a great opportunity for students to further their educaon without traveling to a distant campus. USI has a growing populaon and the campus is adjusng with some key building addions. USI has recently introduced Dr. Ronald S. Rochon as the new Provost and vice president of academic affairs. I would encourage prospecve students and past alumni to visit the campus or our website to learn more about areas of study offered by the department of communicaons. J.
