Tuition Reminder In accordance with school policy, all accounts must be paid for the current year by May 30th. Monthly payments are on a 12-month basis for all grades. This means that a payment is due the 1st of each month begin-ning in July and ending with 2 payments in May. The final payment for the year will be due May 30th. Any student whose account is not paid in full by May 30th will not receive a report card and/or a gradua-tion diploma. If transferring to another school, records will not be sent. Please check your account to make sure your payments have been kept up to date. Please call the school office at 473-7592 with any questions or concerns you have concerning this matter.

Library Reminder All library books should be returned to the school library by Monday, May 14. Final report cards will be held until all books are returned. If a book has been lost or damaged, a charge will be assessed to replace the book.

“The Bag Of Seeds”

What is the road to success? Many a young per-son has pondered this very question, and the main charac-ter of this year’s 5th grade spring program is no excep-tion! Leaving the simple life of his family on his quest for success, this young man is presented with a bag of seeds. This simple gift ultimately teaches its recipient what true success is and where the heart truly belongs. This exciting original story will unfold Tuesday night, May 15, as the 5th grade class presents its spring drama and slide show presentation. The program begins at 7:00 PM and will take place in the church sanctuary. Please note that this is not the Elementary spring musical but is a separate event featuring the fifth graders. The evening is sure to be a blessing and we look forward to seeing many of you there!

Teacher Appreciation Week Join us in showing appreciation for our teachers as we celebrate a jungle-themed “Teacher Appreciation Week,” on May 7th-11th. Cards, notes of thanks or spe-cial drawings are welcome as we take the time to honor

our teachers who give so much of themselves throughout the year. On Thursday, May 10th, students and staff will enjoy a special dress-up day—pith helmets, khakis, and hiking boots are encouraged! Plan to join in on the fun!

Protect yourself against summer rain showers with an SCA golf umbrella! These are large (64”) windproof umbrellas with forest green and white stripes, feature the SCA logo, and are available for $20 in the school office.

“Ordinary People - Extraordinary God” What happens when ordinary people choose to follow God? He works in amazing ways—in spite of dif-ficulties and failures! Join us as the K4-4th grade stu-

dents present this important message through nar-ration and song during their spring mu-sical Thursday, May 10th, at 7:00 pm. This annual program is sure to encour-age all those who hear it—we hope to see you!

Planting “Posies” Colorful buckets, markers, stickers, potting soil and pretty flowers were the “ingredients” for a recent Pre-school and K4 project. We thank the Point Township Gar-den Club members and other volunteers who helped stu-dents with this special project—we know the finished pro-jects will bring smiles to many faces!

K4—5th grade students will be enjoying an afternoon of games and competition on

Tuesday, May 29, beginning at 12:30 pm. Parents are welcome to attend!

SCA Yearbooks The 2011-2012 SCA Eagle Edition will be avail-able mid-May. Mrs. Rothermel and the yearbook com-mittee have done a beautiful job in designing this special remembrance of the school year—we thank them for the many hours given to this project. “Book It!” We all know that reading is important, and what better way to encourage reading outside of school than with a reward?! This winter, SCA Kindergarten through 5th grade students again took part in “Book-It,” an ele-mentary reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut. Each month from October through March students were given a monthly calendar or reading “contract” along with grade-appropriate reading goals. After meeting the month’s goals, students were given a certificate for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Those students who met the read-ing goals for all six months were honored with the title “Book-It All Star” for the school year. Congratulations, students—keep on reading! Pictured below are SCA’s 2012 “All Stars”:

Envirothon 2012 The Canon Envirothon and its regional qualifiers is an annual competition in which teams from the United States and Canada compete for recognition and scholarships by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural re-source management. The teams, each consisting of five High School-aged students, exercise their training and problem-solving skills in a competition centered on the following universal testing categories: soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and a current environmental issue. This year’s Sr. High Regional qualifier will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at the Shikellamy State Park in Sunbury. SCA participants this year are 12th graders Brittany Baumert, Carissa Erdman, Elijah Miller and Katie Zeigler, and 9th grader Torri Erdman. To learn more about the Envirothon, visit http://www.envirothon.org/ Our teams have done very well over the past several years in regional competition, placing first in Northumberland County eight times, and taking top honors in the overall Susquehanna Valley Envirothon Competition in 2010.

ACAA Track Meet Many SCA 6th-12th grad-ers will have the opportunity to par-ticipate in competitive Track and Field events on Friday, May 18, during the ACAA Track Meet at Bloomsburg University. This meet takes place once a year and involves approximately a dozen Christian schools from central Pennsylvania. Mrs.

Hernandez and Mr. Jackson have been working with students during PE classes and after school practices to develop skills and build strength and endurance in preparation for the event. If you enjoy

Track and Field competition, consider attending this free event—your support

in the stands will be most welcome!

Summer Reading Current 8th-11th grade students will be required to complete summer reading requirements before return-ing to class next fall. Information concerning the require-ments, including book selections, will be sent home with mid-term grade sheets to students in those grades.

Final Day of School: Wednesday, May 30

11:30 Dismissal Shikellamy will be offering only

LIMITED BUSING both Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30.

Move-Up Day Both the K4 and 5th grade classes will enjoy a small “taste” of what next year’s classes will be like as they participate in “Move-Up Day,” which will take place Wednesday, May 16th. We have found that this special day helps to build excite-ment about what’s ahead for next year and eases the tran-sition about to take place. Thank you in advance, Mrs. Drumheller and Middle School teachers, for your part in helping these students prepare for next year!

Civil War Program Students, teachers, parents, grandparents and other guests had the opportunity to attend a Civil War program here at SCA. The featured speaker-author and re-enactor was Mr. David Thomas, brother of 4th grade teacher, Mr. Ed Thomas. Displaying and explaining many of the authentic Civil War artifacts in his personal collection, Mr. David Thomas spoke about the reasons for the war, the economy and social life in the nineteenth century, and the life of a Civil War soldier. A favorite attraction of the day was a Civil War encampment, complete with several soldier tents, a split-rail fence and field hospital tent typical of the Civil War.
