bows and pins will be sold at this Friday night's football game in support of long time West Deptford administrator Rich 

Badt, who is currently battling esophageal cancer.  All proceeds collected will go towards fighting the disease.

GUIDANCE NEWS: 

Important Reminders from the Guidance Department: 

Seniors: 

1. Numerous college scholarship opportunities are available! Simply log into your Naviance Account, click on Colleges, then Scholarship List for more information. This list is updated frequently so be sure to check back often! You can also use the Scholarship Search link to access many more opportunities! 

 

2. For those seniors applying to 4 year colleges, please be mindful of upcoming application deadlines and be sure to send your SAT/ACT scores directly from the testing agencies. In addition, please remember to update your application status and request that a transcript be sent through your Naviance account. 

 

3. Seniors who need help can take advantage of Walk‐in Wednesdays!  Simply pop into the Media Center on any Wednesday during your lunch study hall to see a counselor for assistance.  Due to next week’s PSAT testing on Wednesday, Oct. 19th, we will hold this next Thursday instead. 

 

4. Also, seniors should check with the teachers whom they asked for letters of rec to make sure that the letters are uploaded prior to their application due date. Students are reminded to give teachers at least two weeks’ notice. 

 

5. RCGC will be here October 25th to discuss the community college option and application process. Interested seniors must sign up in Guidance or through Naviance.  

 

6. If you have not already done so, please sign up for Guidance text reminders. Seniors should text @wdhs17 to 81010. 

 

Juniors: 

1. If you are interested in meeting one‐on‐one with an academic advisor from RCGC to discuss your future educational goals or taking a college course while in high school, simply sign up in the Guidance Office. A RCGC rep will be here one day a month for this purpose.  

2. Juniors who need help with using Naviance to research colleges and careers or who wish to sign up for the SATs or ACTs can take advantage of Walk‐in Wednesdays!  Simply pop into the Media Center on any Wednesday during your lunch study hall to see a counselor for assistance.  Due to next week’s PSAT testing on Wednesday, Oct. 19th, we will hold this next Thursday instead.

MESSAGE FROM WDHS PTO: 

This year our Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the High School Cafeteria/Gymnasium. In the past, we have always accepted food donations for this event. This year we are requesting either a $5 donation in lieu of food donations or, if you would still prefer to make a food donation, to sign‐up via the "Sign‐Up Genius" link below to do so.  It is our hope that this will be easier for families and for us to keep track of which food to order/delivery. Any donations will be accepted and much appreciated.  We will accept cash or check (checks made out to West Deptford PTO).  Donations can be sent to the High School Main Office in an envelope addressed to the PTO. We would appreciate all monetary donations by October 26, 2016.  Any questions please contact Karen Gotchel ‐ [email protected] .

KEY CLUB NEWS:   On Wednesday, October 5th, Key Club members made over 200 PB&J sandwiches to be distributed to the hungry in Camden.  The following students participated: James Phillips, Maddie Kelly, Mariaya Smith, Taylor Fanslau, Camryn Pulley, Gavin Paul‐Welsh, Josh Shaffer, Justin Cairns, Brad Schultes, Maria Poblete, Sam Steward, Julie Egresitz, Dante Paterna, Markayla Anderson, Samuel Cameron, Katelyn Skarupa, Daniel Roselli, Emily Engles, LoriAnn Johnson, Annette Wanjiku, and Vinnie Pierce.   Thanks to Mrs. Yvonne Herbst for volunteering her time and her kitchen.  Thanks also to all the students, parents, and staff members who donated peanut butter, jelly, and bread.   On Thursday, October 6th, Key Club members Sarah Cabello, Daniel Roselli, Jennifer Olivares, Jason Minnite, Jenny Le, Lori‐Ann Johnson, and Annette Wanjiku served dinner at Cathedral Kitchen in Camden.  

Key Club is having a Homecoming Food Drive benefiting the Colonial Manor Food 

Pantry.  Students can earn points for their class during Spirit Week (October 24‐

28th) by bringing in non‐perishable food items to their 

homerooms.  Food donations also will be collected at 

the homecoming football game on Friday, October 

28th. Most needed items are peanut butter, jelly, 

instant stuffing and potatoes, macaroni and cheese, 

canned vegetables and fruit, soup and stews, pasta, 

rice, dessert mixes, and pasta sauces. Thank you for 

your generosity.  

 

On Sunday, October 9th, 24 members of the West Deptford HS Key Club attended the NJ District Fall Rally at Six Flag Great Adventure.  Members gathered with 2,000 Key Clubbers from around the state to kick off the year of service and learn about all the ways that they can serve their homes, schools, and communities.

CBI NEWS:   

The students in Mrs. McCool's Class have been reading about the History of West Deptford in her English class. On Friday the authors, April Maska & Noreen Mikulski, and teachers in our district, came to their classroom to do a presentation on the history of WD. The students were able to add to the conversation with the facts they learned while reading the book. Mrs. McCool will be taking the class on a tour of West Deptford next week. Here students will see firsthand the facts they learned about their hometown.

Ms. McCool’s CBI Class read the History of West Deptford Book in English Class. The authors of the book, April 

Maska and Noreen Mikulski, visited the class with a presentation of artifacts found in West Deptford. Students 

then went on a tour of West Deptford. The students were able to add to the discussion tour facts that they 

learned from the book. It was a great activity!
