NOTICE!Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 105 is contracting to purchase drinking water from two nearby districts while MUD 105 builds new water treatment facilities for its system. Construction of the interconnect facilities with the other districts will be complete within two weeks. When the new water supplies are activated, there may be a temporary discoloration of water coming from the new sources. Also, water pressure may be lower while receiving water through the interconnect facilities. Water from other districts will meet Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) standards in all respects.
To ensure adequate water in MUD 105 while new facilities are under construction, MUD 105 will employ Stage 1 Drought Response Measures to reduce water consumption. This means outdoor water use will be limited to Tuesdays and Saturdays for customers with even numbered addresses and Wednesdays and Sundays for customers with odd-numbered addresses. Watering of common areas such as esplanades, parks and sports fields will be limited to Mondays and Fridays. Outdoor water use will be prohibited between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
If you have questions, please contact Customer Service at Southwest Water Company at 713-405-1750.

• Take tulips out of cold storage and plant late this month.
• Fertilize established trees, spring-blooming shrubs, spurias and sweet peas (after they are a foot tall) with a fertilizer such as 13-13-13; Louisiana iris with cotton seed meal and manure.

• Water plants well before a freeze; dry roots are easily damaged.
• Don’t forget to provide food and fresh water for birds. More birds die from lack of water than lack of food.

CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES
The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college.
The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor. This year our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling.
school news Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country. The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission.
The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed Dec. 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials.
Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior.
For more information on the 2013 event please contact Marie Holmes at [email protected] or 281-807-3591.

CFISD STUDENTS SWEEP CUPCAKE BATTLE
CFISD culinary students had an impressive display at the Greater Houston Area Cupcake Battle, sponsored by the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas and held last November at Pasadena Rayburn High
School. The students swept first through third places and took home two other superlatives at the event, which featured approximately 140 entries from high school students in greater Houston. Cy-Fair High School senior Kaylen Gonzalez won first place for her “Reese’s Cupcake,” followed by Cy-Fair senior Phillip Morado in second place for his “Triple Chocolate Pistachio Cupcake.” Cypress Ridge High School senior Nancy Lopez placed third for her “Mocha Cupcake.” Cypress Woods High School sophomore Shelby Richey won the award in the Best Cake category for “The Turtle Cupcake” and Cypress Springs High School senior Ajee Hayes won the award in the Most Elaborate Technique category for her “Peach Cobbler Cupcake.”
“Congratulations to the CFISD culinary students, who took five of the eight awards. It is a remarkable achievement to have their cupcakes chosen from the approximately 140 entries,” said career and technical education coordinator Mark Williams. “These students and their teachers worked diligently and their hard work paid off.”

Holiday Special
• Monday, December 24th, Christmas Eve, Cornerstone will offer three worship opportunities: 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, there will be the Family Christmas Service. In addition to the singing of carols and Communion, children will be invited to the front of the church to hear the Christ Story and receive a special “Christmas” gift from the church. At 6:00 and 11:00 PM, there will be a traditional “Candlelight and Communion” service. It will include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ” through Scripture readings and hymns. All three services will include a “Candle Lighting Ceremony” with everyone lighting candles during the singing of “Silent Night.” • Sunday, December 30th, we will continue our Christmas celebrations and include a “Favorite Christmas Hymn” time at our 8:30 and 10:45 AM services. During this time, worshippers will be given the opportunity to pick and choose their favorite Christmas hymns from The United Methodist Hymnal to be sung. At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. In addition, the Rev. Greg Smith will be bringing an inspiring post-Christmas message.
Everyone is invited to attend these special holiday fellowship and worship opportunities. In addition, we will have a nursery available for all of our worship celebrations except the 11 PM Christmas Eve service. For more information, please call the church office at 281-859-4141. Friday, April 26, 2013 - 7:00 pmCome join our planning committee or register your own team to help raise money for cancer in our Cy-Fair community!! The Heart of Relay: During the Relay for Life event, three ceremonies are held.Survivors Lap: To start Relay, those who have survived their battle with cancer join together to walk a lap celebrating their victories over the disease.
Luminaria Ceremony: At dark, the track is lined with candle-lit bags bearing the names of those who have been touched by or have lost their lives to cancer.
Fight Back Ceremony: Before participants leave Relay, they make a personal commitment to help fight back against cancer in several ways.As interest in Relay for Life grew in the Houston area, the American Cancer Society began forming events in local communities and the first Cy-Fair Relay for Life committee was formed in 2004. This is our 9th year in Cy-Fair and our goal is to reach the $1 million Dollar mark. We are very close and only need $150,000 to meet our goal and with YOUR help, we can make this goal a reality!! 100% of our profits go to ACS to use for research and other programs. With more than 1,000 participants in last year’s Relay, we know that we can grow even bigger this year!
