Fourth graders finished their study of famous Georgians. They selected a famous Georgian to research, write about, and present to the class. As part of their presentation, they dressed as that person. They did a wonderful job and learned how the efforts of individuals contribute to those around them.

Thanks to everyone’s fundraising and donations, all new computers were installed in the computer lab after Christmas. New software is in the process of being installed. Thank you, parents, for all of your hard work!

Teacher Spotlight - Tina Stevens

Tina Stevens is both an ACA preschool teacher and parent. Tina began teaching preschool fourteen years ago at North Atlanta Day School in Roswell before coming to ACA four and a half years ago. Tina has fun teaching the little ones to love the Lord!Twenty-five years ago, Tina married her high school sweetheart, Mike. They have four children, Corey, (21) at the University of West Georgia, Jake (19) at Western Carolina University, Olivia (16) at Johns Creek High School, and Natalie (8) at ACA. In addition to the children, they also have a Siamese cat named Charlie, a golden doodle named Lucy, and a cockapoo named Wallace. Tina and her family are members at FBCA.

Although Tina spent her teen years in Warner Robins, Georgia, her background is international. Her father was in the Air Force stationed in England, when he fell in love with and married the lovely English lady who later became Tina’s mother. Tina was born in Hahn, Germany and lived on the Rhein Mein AFB during her elementary years. While working at ACA, Tina discovered that she and Mrs. Mills were in class together for the first and second grade.

Tina’s family enjoys spending time together and visiting their parents. While Mike’s parents are located in Marietta, Tina’s parents now live near her sister on a small farm in South Carolina with chickens, goats, and pigeons. In her spare time, Tina loves photography and has been scrap booking for 21 years. Many of us know that Tina also likes to bake, and fortunately, is willing to share what she has baked.

The threes and pre-k students were treated to a visit by Alpharetta Children’s Dentistry. First, the students learned what happens when they visit the dentist. Then after categorizing foods as healthy or not healthy, they enjoyed learning the importance of brushing and flossing in a fun, interactive manner.

Second graders recently researched, reported on, and presented their reports on famous Americans. Many students dressed as their chosen American. All practiced their presentation and reporting skills.

SECOND GRADERS REPORT ON FAMOUS AMERICANS

At the PTO Christmas store, the fourth and fifth sold hand-made gifts to raise money to send care packages to deployed soldiers. They were given a loan in order to purchase manufacturing supplies and were responsible for the production, pricing, advertising, and sales of their products. Thanks to their hard work and everyone’s support of the store, the students raised over $400. The students then went shopping with their parents to purchase books, movies, games, snacks, and other gifts for the soldiers. The boxes will be mailed through a program of the Friends of the Alpharetta Public Library.

Many of the students in Mrs. Jacob’s kindergarten class seemed much older on the hundredth day of school. What a fun way to celebrate!

OLD PEOPLE SEEN ON HUNDREDTH DAY OF SCHOOL

We are fortunate to have Cyndi Jacobs teaching kindergarten. This is her eighth year at ACA and her fifteenth year teaching. Prior to coming to ACA, Cyndi had taken eight years off to be a stay at home mom. Cyndi was born and raised in Des Plaines, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Her childhood memories include walking to school in a lot of snow, playing outside in snowdrifts, and tap and ballet dancing. She and her family moved to Georgia during her high school years, and she graduated from West Georgia College with a master’s degree in early childhood education. Cyndi says she is glad to be living in a beautiful and mostly warm place like Georgia.

Cyndi has a husband, two daughters (high school and college), two dogs, and two frogs. She describes herself as the least adventurous member of her family. She says, “We have enjoyed activities such as skiing in the Rocky Mountains, swimming with dolphins in Key Largo, zip lining in Georgia, traveling through Italy, hiking Red Rock Canyon, and being extras in a Demi Moore movie. We are always looking for the next adventure!”

When Cyndi is not teaching or off on an adventure, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and attending North Point Community Church, where she is involved in a women’s Bible study. She says, “I truly enjoy working at ACA with all of the wonderful students, staff and teachers. I feel very blessed and look forward to the rest of our school year!”

The annual elementary talent show was a huge success. Family and friends were entertained by piano, guitar, comedy, dance, and singing. The drama club insured everyone left happy and laughing with their comedy acts. All participants did an excellent job, and we are proud of our young students for overcoming nerves and showing everyone the results of their hard work.

Talent Show Delights Family, Friends.

Fourth and fifth graders showed creativity, hard work, and an understanding of the scientific method with their science fair projects. Projects included a study of synthetic versus natural laundry detergents, a hovercraft, a study of erosion prevention, effective teeth whitening, and the need for pressurized airplanes. Congratulations to our winners: Avery Petzinger (1st), Maddie Nussbaum (2nd), Trinity Quigley (2nd), Tommy Adair (3rd), and Marshall Hene (3rd).

To show thanks to FBCA staff for their service, the second grade served staff members lunch. Each staff member received a hand-delivered invitation to lunch. At the lunch, the students gave each attendee a letter of thanks and a gift.

SECOND GRADERS SERVE GOD’S SERVANTS

A special pre-k tradition at ACA is the Mothers’ Teas, where mothers are celebrated with special songs, crafts, and food. This year was no exception. Students spend weeks preparing songs and special gifts for their mothers. They love the opportunity to pamper the women who give so much to their children.

PRE-K STUDENTS PAMPER MOTHERS WITH MOTHERS’ TEAS

February 5 and 6 brought the annual Muffins with Mom. Students and teachers welcomed this opportunity to honor the mothers of our students. Thank you, mothers, for not only coming, but for also being such a wonderful influence on your children.

STUDENTS AND PARENTS ENJOY MUFFINS WITH MOM

Pre-K students and teachers celebrated Wacky Wednesday in honor of the letter W. Everyone enjoyed seeing all the outlandish outfits at school.

Each year, pre-k students enjoy Dr. Seuss week. They love reading the books, making green eggs and ham, and dressing up as a Dr. Seuss character.

Elementary students at ACA recently made valentines for children who are patients at Children's Sibley Heart Center. They worked in conjunction with 104.7 The Fish to bring surprise and cheer to children who are waiting to have their hearts fixed.
