Dear Mr. Maguire:

November 12, 1959

KABL -Music is pleased to verify your report of reception November 2, 1959,

beginning at 0133 AM

It may be of interest to you that KABL -Music received authorization and began using the present call letters on May 11, 1959. In conjunction with

the change in call letters, there was a rejuvenation of programming,

resulting in "GOOD MUSIC" for an ever -increasing audience, which we are glad includes you.

Our transmitter is a one -kilowatt Collins Model 20 T, operating into a

single tower non -directional antenna. The transmitter site is on a small island at the west (Oakland) end of the "BayBridge." The studios are

located in central Oakland at 464 19th Street, and are functioning 24 hours

each day.

If in the future you are visiting Oakland, feel welcome to view the studio facilities that comprise KABL- Music, THE MEASURE OF QUALITY MUSIC.

Musically yours,

Howard Immecus Chief Engineer

Dear Sir:

PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA

This is to confirm your recent letter reporting the reception of this station on the morning of February 19, 1951, from 1:08 to 1:26 A.M. PST. Aeheck of our station log shows your report to be a very accurate one.

Your report is especially appreciated in that several new tubes had be put in the rf section as well as new modulator tubes and it certainly is nice to know that after that was done the transmitter was performing well enough to be received by you in Albuquerque.

The transmitter here is a sates 250 watter using an 807 xtal oscillator, 813 buffer and a pair of 810's in parallel as final rf amplifiers. The final is modulated by a pair of 810's in push pull operating class B.

I want to thank you very much for your fine letter and report on this station and I hope that sore day when I get my ham rig back on the air we can have a good old fashioned Ç,S0. My call letters are W6IGA.

RADIO STATION K C K C,

770 Mill Street, San Bernardino, Calif.

February 2, 1960.

Dear Mr. Maguire:

We receive the usual run of reception reports from New Zealand

and from relatively distant points both north and south of San

Bernardino, but we were indeed pleased and surprised to receive

your reception report...from a point so far east!

I am exclamatory about, "...so far east" because after sundown

K C K C switches to a two -tower directional pattern, intensity

emphasis being approximately northeast and southwest of here.

I think therefore it is nothing short of phenombnal that you should

have heard us even weakly.

As you have probably learned from your copy of White's Radio Log,

we are 500 watts, day and night. Transmitter is an RCA a little over

a year old. Unfortunately, I am not able to communicate with you

on a strictly technical basis since I am Program Director, not Chief

Engineer. Our engineering servicing is done on a consulting basis

so we have no full -time C hief, as such.

In the next six months or so we contemplate going 5,000 watts and

would appreciate any further information you might be able to furnish

regarding reception in Albequerque. Incidentally, your list of our

programming and announcements is exactly correct.

Several years ago I spent a brief period as an announcer at KRSN,

Los Alamos. Didn't care for the "penal" atmosphere in Los Alamos,

but liked your town very, very much.

On behalf of everyone here at K C K C, thank you for your most welcome

letter. Very Truly Yours,

David ,Skannoñ.

Norman L. Maguire 434 North Maple Albuquerque, New Mexico

Dear Mr. Maguire,

Thank you for your report of reception of our station on February 12, 1951. Your report is quite accurate and precise.

KDAC transmits from a four -hundred foot vertical tower located in Fort Bragg, about one mile from the Pacific Ocean. Power output is 250 watts, using Collins equipt- ment throughout.

Your report of reception is greatly appreciated; your city will be indicated on our reception map. Should you monitor our station during a subsequent test, especially during the summer months, we would be indeed pleased to hear from you again.

With best wishes for your continued DX success I remain

Sincerly yours,

Craig N. Smith Chief Engineer

Dear Norman;

Thanks very much for your letter of 16 December 57, in which you report reception of KFIV in Albuquerque.

Normally, KXOL would serve to interfere with us to such a degree that reception in your area would be difficult, if not impossible. However, we sometimes shift over to our daytime (non- directional) antenna while performing various "off- the -air" tests, and this would bring us in with strength such as you mention in your letter.

I suppose you know that we were KMOD until last May, at which time we underwent a change in ownership, picking up our new call in the process. Otherwise, all facilities are the same.

Your report is essentially correct, and we hope you will accept this letter as proof of your reception of KFIV.

Oh gee whiz, look at the date. Here it is February and you wrote your DX report in November. The DX files were turned over to me not long ago, so maybe, could you forgive the delay?

Checking back in the November log for the information you sent, I find that on the night of the 7th you heard us from 8 :30 to 9 :30 PM. The programs included a remote broadcast of a County Barn Dance, 8 :30 -9; the Church of Christ broadcast, 9 -9 :15; and a newscast, 9 :15 -30.

It was grand of you to write. Do it again and happy listening.

You may be interested to know that KLAC transmitters are located in the heart of Hollywood, on the site of the old Cahuenga River bed. The ground signal is exceptionally strong and covers Southern California with almost perfect reception, from the Tehachapi Mountains on the north, well into Mexico on the south.

We receive numerous letters from all over the United States, islands in the Central and South Pacific and from the sea, telling of the clarity of reception of KLAC programs.

The interference on our frequency is probably due to the station in Yuba City, California and one up

This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of November 1 reporting on the signal of KROP.

Your report coincides with our log, and we are happy to hear that our signal comes in as well as it does in Con- necticut.

We are located in the heart of Imperial Valley with our antenna located in a river bottom which gives us a good ground all the year 'round here in the middle of the de- sert. We operate on 1000 watt power during the day and on 500 watt power at night.

I very much appreciate your report; KROP has been on the air only since April 20 of this year and we are therefore particularly happy to get such reports as yours from listeners in distant localities.

Dear Norman:

Sorry to keep y -u waiting so dogone long for this verification of your good report of reception. Very complete and very good. You certainly had much better luck than some of the DXer's. We were barely audible in a couple of cases. But in every case I was able to verify.

This will serve as your verification of the report of reception of Radio Station Kvon, the morning of Sat, December 6, 1952 12:30a - 1:06 a. during a special DX. program.

Whilikers::: Does it get that cold In Albuquerque ?... Yoiks 200.... Wow.

Frankly, I DO enjoy the doing of these programs... but. as you no doubt have realized by now, I hate to sit down to answer 25 or so letters. I don't exactly like to just wrap the whole thing up with a trite 'this will verify...etc.'. either. So what it evolves to, is that I try to get at least a half or full one page letter of to each man who has written in. I soon run out of different things to say ,too so it means about three letters and then I procrastinate for about 2 weeks to 3 months $ before sitting down to do th. job again. Really hope you generally have better and quiker results as a general run than tis has turned out to be.

Again. Oomenasai .

Dear Mr. ?: aguire :

This is to verify your reception of the recent DX program for the NRC. Thank you for the very fine report. We enjoyed putting the program on and are pleased that you enjoyed hear- ing it.

We have had many fine reports ana most of them from the east coast. Because of our directional setup, we didn't expect to receive so many.

Thanks again for the fine report and hope we can get together again next year for another DX program.
