These stunningly detailed sculptures may only be made from paper.The intricate creations depict Native American scenes and took up to11 months to make using a specially formulated paper.

Husband and wife team Allen and Patty Eckman put paper pulp into clay moulds and pressurize it to remove the water.

The hard, lightweight pieces are then removed and the couple painstakingly add detailed finishings with a wide range of tools.

They have been making these creations – art since 1987 in their home studio located in South Dakota, United States of America.

The pieces depict traditional scenes from Native American history of Cherokees hunting and dancing.

Allen's great grandmother was Cherokee. The family on both sides admire the native Americans, and in their being to create Native Art.

Allen works on the men & animals, and Patty does the women and children.

The paper really lends itself to unlimited detail, and the Indians' material, physical and spiritual culture, and that whole period of their nation's history from the western expansion, through the Civil War and beyond, really interest them.

Their technique should not be confused with "Papier Mache."The two mediums are completely different. Allen refers to theirmethod as "Cast Paper Sculpture."

Some sculptures are lifesize, and some are scaled down to 1/6 lifesize.

The sculptures are transformed by sculpting on top of them by creatingdetail using soft & hard paper in various thicknesses and textures.
