Thought for the Week Introduce new SDG: How can working in partnership bring about success in achieving the SDGs?

Welcome back to Summer Term 2 everyone! We hope you had an enjoyable half term break.

Just before half term, a well deserving Year 6 were lucky enough to visit the Treginnis Farm just outside St David's in Wales. The

children learnt a range of skills under the care of Farmer Dan, including how to milk goats, feed molly lambs and plant pumpkins. We loved our costal walks with the dogs. Milo, in particular, was a big hit with the kids-in fact some may some that it was really him that took them for a walk. We had a lovely excursion to St. Davids where the children competed in a scavenger hunt around the cathedral and then tasted some of the local ice-cream. Bubblegum was the most popular choice and we had a lot of blue faces to clean up afterwards.

On the last day of the half term, Helen Sawyer, one of our school Governors, came to visit to

look at Maths throughout the school. She saw Maths being taught in Year 2, 3 and 4

and a whole range of different manipulatives and strategies being used. The children talked confidently to Helen about their maths learning and were also able to talk about Maths across the curriculum, which is one of our Ofsted targets. Helen also looked at a range of our Topic and

Science books which showed clear evidence of our maths links and the children were able to talk about the maths logo which shows different cross curricular link. Helen was even able to see Year 6 cooking and showing off their maths in a different way. Thank you to all the teachers for their hard work and for making maths so engaging and exciting.

Year One enjoyed an adventurous day at Box Hill on the last Wednesday of

half term to link with their topic ‘Is it better to live in the city or country?’. The sun was shining and the children were surrounded by rolling hills and plenty of nature. After surviving the climb to the top of Box Hill the children enjoyed a picnic with stunning views, trees to climb, logs to balance on and hills to roll down. A great day was had by all and, according to Noah’s Fitbit, over 14,000 steps taken! Eventually we had to return to school but we could happily have stayed and explored for much longer.

A big thank you to all the parents that joined us and helped make the day so special

On Friday 25th May, our Year 2 Multi Skills Team played in a multi skills festival held at Wimbledon Park

Primary School. The children were split into four teams of four children each and they took part in participating in

various fun, sporting games looking to test their throwing, running, kicking and jumping skills. Games such as the testing

speed bounce in which children get 30 seconds to see how many jumps they can complete on a mat. Well done to all the

children who took part, they all gave maximum effort and represented the school in a fantastic manner.

This term Reception have been learning about what makes a good superhero. On the last Thursday of half

term, we were delighted to share some of that learning with friends and family in our Reception Class Assembly. We sung some superhero songs, showed off some of our super work and displayed our best talents - skipping, hula-hooping and even flying! Everyone dressed up and looked absolutely amazing. Thank you to all the family members who supported us by coming to see the show and for buying or making such fantastic costumes. We were so proud of all of our Reception superheroes!

Year 4 had a wonderful time on Wednesday

welcoming parents and carers to our Fairtrade Coffee Afternoon. We had spent all week

preparing delicious cakes using Fairtrade ingredients including chocolate brownies, chocolate and banana muffins and even courgette cakes! After all of our Topic learning, we feel passionately about promoting Fairtrade. We prepared some posters and practiced speaking confidently about the benefits of Fairtrade for banana farmers in the Winward Islands and cocoa farmers in the Dominican Republic. Our parents also loved seeing our Fairtrade-inspired landscape paintings in the style of Paul Gauguin. A fantastic afternoon was had by all and it was lovely to share our learning over a delicious cake or two! Thank you to all the parents and carers for contributing and helping to make this wonderful event happen.

Finally, Congratulations to Raven for designing the winning poster

for our PTA Summer Fair, ‘Football Fever!’ We hope you have the date in your diaries and are looking forward to what promises to be a great day of fun and fundraising on Saturday 16th June. Thank you to the PTA for their tireless efforts in planning and organising the day. If you would like to offer your help, please approach any of the PTA chairs on the playground before or after school.

Have a good week, Regards, Steve Trow

INTERNATIONAL DAY On Monday 25th June, we will be celebrating the

diversity of languages and cultures that make up our wonderful school community. Thank you to all the parents who have agreed to help on the day.

Each class has been allocated a specific country for the day and the children will be learning lots of new facts about that country through a range of exciting activities, including

Art, PE, dance, music, cooking and much more! All children will also get a chance to practice their French when they take a little trip to

‘La France’ in the bottom hall!
