How do fish breathe?
What are clouds made of ?
Why do zebras have stripes?
How many times a day does your child ask questions just like
these? The innate curiosity of each young learner is the beginning
of the learning process. In The Barstow School’s Early Childhood
Program, we transform this curiosity into a lifelong passion for
learning, creating independent, enthusiastic learners. Our loving,
compassionate faculty implement a research-based curriculum
in which students’ reflective questions fuel hands-on learning
experiences. The Barstow Early Childhood Program emphasizes
goals and objectives in the four areas of Social/Emotional,
Physical, Cognitive and Language development through a wide
variety of instructional strategies.
Transforming Curiosity
Building a life long passion for learning truly takes a village. At
Barstow our experienced early childhood educators partner with
the young learner’s first teachers, the parents, to build a bridge
between home and school. To create an individualized educational
experience for every child, your child will be placed in a single
classroom for an entire academic year, where the same teacher,
teaching assistant and classmates interact throughout the year. This
consistency of environment allows each child to feel comfortable
and secure to investigate and discover the world around them.
Within this school family comprised of teachers, peers and parents,
the young learner begins to explore concepts of acceptance,
empathy and kindness.

Creativity is the product of an open environment that fosters
imaginative thought and varied experience. The young learner’s
day at Barstow includes exploratory play, structured small group
projects, whole class activities and one-on-one time with the
teacher. In addition to the 10 classroom interest areas, Barstow’s
Early Childhood Program includes specialized instruction in
Music, Spanish, Art, Library and Creative Movement.
