WHAT’S HAPPENING IN SCIENCE?

Over the last week, our Bunjil students have been learning all about life cycles in their Korean Program. They created very detailed diagrams complete with labels, all written in Korean. Very impressive!

HARMONY DAY-CHELSEA CELEBRATES-TUESDAY MARCH 21

Harmony Day is celebrated in March every year with schools across the country

organising events that celebrate the cohesive and inclusive nature of Australians.

It provides a great opportunity for students to learn that not only do they share

common ground with other cultures, but also that our differences make Australia a special place to live.

We encourage everyone to dress in ‘Harmony Day’ orange or a costume from another culture. Easy options include sarongs, Mexican Hats and ponchos, karate gear, kimonos or even colours of your family’s heritage flag. Throughout the day all classes will enjoy participating in a range of activities to promote inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAYS FOR TEACHERS In our Victorian Education State, we achieve excellence by consistently focusing on improving the achievements of learners across Victoria, whether it is through improving the quality of educational services or changing the way we teach.

The most important thing we can do to improve student outcomes is to develop and improve the skills of our teachers. To ensure we support the learning and development of not only our students, we are committed to providing professional development opportunities for our teachers.

From 2018, teachers will spend four days per year further developing their skills in areas that are aligned to the school priorities. Students will directly benefit from these improvements in their daily learning.

These professional practice days are an opportunity for teachers to work collaboratively to improve their teaching practice. The days will be scheduled ahead of time to ensure there is minimal impact and there is a learning plan in place to ensure education continues as usual in the classroom.

This term our staff have targeted areas of learning associated with developing our whole school writing program, support of students with specific learning needs, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and innovative practice in ICT.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS We wish to thank our outgoing School Councilors, Taryn Wragg, Lauren Heazlewood and Chris Hulse for their commitment to our School Council over the last 2 years. Taryn, Lauren and Chris have been invaluable members of our Education and Facilities committees and have ensured that school policies, programs and environmental directions are supported. We appreciate your time and your passion for our school.

DISSOLUTION OF PARENT CLUB Since 1991, Chelsea Primary School has had an ‘officially’ registered Parent Club. Our Friends of Chelsea (FOC) group have assumed the responsibility of liaising with parents and teachers and supporting school events. We would like to announce voluntary dissolution of the registered Parent Club.

We look forward to the continued support of our ‘Friends of Chelsea’ parent group and their planned activities.
